Shaobo has reached new heights of beauty again, with its bustling exterior, market scenes, and ancient town

Shaobo, also known as Gantang, is a historic and culturally rich town in China, also famous for its traditional cuisine. Shaobo wontons, Shaobo sausages, and Shaobo crayfish are all well-known.

Historically, Shaobo was a prominent canal town, famously known as 'Shaobo Grand Wharf, Zhenjiang Small Wharf.' However, the bustling scenes of boats stretching for miles are no more, and the small town remains in its old-time charm.

Shaobo Wharf, as an important heritage site of the Grand Canal of China, was listed as a World Cultural Heritage site in 2014. Many literati and scholars, including Su Dongpo, Qin Shaoyou, and Pu Songling, have left numerous relics here. By the canal, you can still see the iron ox that Mr. Zhu Ziqing once sat on.

🌈Recommended Check-in Spots
1️⃣ Douye Pavilion
There is a century-old iron ox for water control
2️⃣ Shaobo Inspection Department
The Inspection Department is located in the historical street of Shaobo, Damato Lane, established in the first year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1368). It had one ninth-rank inspector, overseeing twenty-four wards and eight shops, with 132 security personnel.
3️⃣ Rolling Water Dam
A beautiful small road on the river, very photogenic
4️⃣ Fanxing Temple
Under renovation. You can see it across the river from the road. If you want to visit, it's best to ask a local resident for directions. There is a small path to enter, but it's not easy to find.
5️⃣ Canal Lock Area
This is the largest lock on the thousand-mile canal. Under the bridge, in the middle of the river, there are many cargo ships. Walking along the road extending from the bridge, you will reach the vast expanse where the river and lake meet.
6️⃣ Ancient Town Historical Street
To be honest, Shaobo Ancient Town is somewhat quiet and deserted, with no commercialized streets, only narrow alleys, stone slabs, and blue bricks, retaining its ancient charm.
7️⃣ Canal Ecological Park
The five themed areas correspond to the stories and cultures of Su Dongpo, Zhu Ziqing, Buddhism, Kong Shangren, and hydraulic engineering. Spring peaches, summer lotuses, autumn waters, and winter plums, each scene has its own history.
