When people talk about ceramics, they usually think of Jingdezhen.
But just 1.5 hours from Hangzhou, there's another “Ceramics Capital” that’s totally underrated — Yixing!
It’s full of charm and amazing spots to explore!
陶二厂 (Tao Er Chang)
Once an abandoned old ceramics factory, this place has now been revived into a trendy and creative hub!
Pick a weekend or holiday, gather your friends or family, and head to this little gem of a town to experience the beauty and culture of ceramics.
How to get there:
By train: Hangzhou to Yixing High-Speed Rail: ~40 min + 15 min taxi
By car: Hangzhou to Yixing by self-driving: ~1.5 hours
What to do there:
UCCA Dune Art Museum (陶美术馆)
A stunning red brick building with minimalist architecture, designed by renowned architect Kengo Kuma. This is UCCA’s fourth location in China, and it has already become a landmark in Yixing.
Pro tip: For fewer people and better photos, go before 8 AM or after 4 PM.
Current exhibition: “The Way of the Vessel”
Features award-winning ceramic pieces from the Mino International Ceramics Festival—an absolute feast for art lovers!
