Located in the Okitama region of Yamagata Prefecture, Yonezawa Station serves as the intersection of the Yamagata Shinkansen and the Ōu Main Line, making it a key entry point to Yonezawa City. It takes about two hours by Shinkansen from Tokyo, and the station is the starting point for visits to Uesugi Shrine, the ruins of Yonezawa Castle, and nearby hot spring resorts.
Although the station is not large, it is well-equipped, and its highlight is the Yonezawa Beef Bento! Inside the station, there are specialty shops and restaurants offering freshly grilled Yonezawa beef sukiyaki bento and steak bento, a must-try for railway enthusiasts and food lovers. Additionally, the station houses a tourist information center, making it convenient for travelers to plan walking routes around the city and Uesugi family historical sites.
🚶♀️ Upon exiting the station, you can take a bus or taxi to Uesugi Shrine or extend your journey to explore the Yonezawa Eight Hot Springs. Yonezawa Station is not just a transportation hub but also the starting point for a journey blending history, culture, and cuisine.
