Formerly known as "Gongbao," Gongchuan Town is the only castle town in Fujian. Throughout its history, Gongchuan has been home to many scholars and distinguished figures, and boasts numerous protected cultural relics. There are three provincial-level cultural relic protection sites: the ancient city wall, Huiqing Bridge, and Sunbang Guild Hall. More than ten sites are protected at the municipal level, including Zhengshun Temple, the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall, ancient wells, and the former residence of Li Baojun. Gongchuan has a rich history and a strong cultural heritage. Established as a town in the Tang Dynasty, its literary tradition spans over a thousand years. Since the Song Dynasty, it has produced generations of prominent figures, with the Chen family enjoying the reputation of "One family, two Neo-Confucian scholars; nine sons, ten imperial examination successes." During the Ming and Qing dynasties, numerous scholars achieved the prestigious titles of Jinshi, Juren, and Gongsheng. In the late Ming Dynasty, a library containing 100,000 books was built within the castle walls.
