Weixian Ancient City Travel Guide | A Thousand-Year-Old Ancient Style Journey
Hello everyone👋, today I’m sharing a treasure full of historical charm — Weixian Ancient City. This place holds stories of the ages, and every corner exudes a unique allure. Let’s see how to explore this ancient city together🎈!
🌟Must-Visit Attractions
Yuhuang Pavilion: Also known as "Jingbian Tower," it was built in the 10th year of the Hongwu reign of the Ming Dynasty (1377) and is a nationally protected cultural relic. The total area is 2,022.3 square meters, divided into front and rear courtyards, including the Hall of Heavenly Kings and the main hall of Yuhuang Pavilion.
Exterior: It features a triple-eaved Xieshan-style glazed tile roof, with a glazed floral ridge on the main ridge. The ends have imposing coiled dragon gargoyles, and the ridge is decorated with glazed Eight Immortals. The side ridges are adorned with large gargoyle beasts, and the four corner ridge tips have beast heads with hanging iron bells that jingle in the breeze, creating a full atmospheric effect🎇.
Interior: Inside the main hall is a statue of the Jade Emperor. The large mural "Fengshen Tu" on the wall is vividly colorful and lifelike, as if it can transport you back to the magical era of the Investiture of the Gods. On both sides of the Jade Emperor statue are murals of the Five Yuan Emperors and the Queen Mother of the West. Under the front eaves, eight stone steles stand, including a very precious "Tianxianzi" poem stele from the 23rd year of the Jiajing reign of the Ming Dynasty. Climbing the pavilion offers a panoramic view of the ancient city: to the north, the Huliu River winds like a belt; to the south, Cuiping Mountain is shrouded in mist, breathtakingly beautiful😍.
Ruins of the Dai Kingdom City Wall: Located about 20 Chinese miles east of Weixian city, around the government seat of Daiwang Town. The existing city wall ruins are about 2 meters high, 3 meters wide, with a circumference of 9.7 kilometers, and the site is oval-shaped. This was once the capital of the Dai Kingdom from the Spring and Autumn period to the Han Dynasty, full of historical atmosphere. Standing before the ruins, you can imagine the prosperity and majesty of the city in ancient times, almost hearing the clashing of swords and horses. The south wall has 11 horse-face battlements, and the remains of 9 city gates can still be faintly identified, named Xingyang Gate, Xinglong Gate, Baoyuan Gate, etc., all with poetic names. Outside the city are many Han Dynasty burial mounds, with 63 surviving royal and noble tombs. This site is not only important for studying Han Dynasty urban and Chinese city construction history but also significant for researching cultural exchanges between northern ethnic minorities and the Han people📖.
