If you are looking for a restaurant with an open-air bath and a view among the Yufuin ryokans, then you must go to Musouen!

Traveled to Yufuin and Beppu for two nights and it was the best trip of my life.
Day 1: Arrival to Fukuoka Airport
- Bus/Train to Yufuin > Musouen
It rarely snows in Yufuin and I got to experience the snowy mountain resort vibes - even onsen-ing in the snow!
Day 2: Yufuin > Beppu
- Touring around Yufuin Downtown
- Bus to Beppu
It was an easy trip (less than an hour, ¥900) and it was a totally different vibe from Yufuin. I did not go to downtown so I don’t know how different it is, however Kunisakisou and the neighbourhood didn’t have much stuff to do. Thus I stayed at the ryokan, enjoying the onsen the whole day.
I recommend staying at Yufuin downtown until late afternoon for Beppu. The restaurants near Kunisakisou closes early so make sure to have early dinner (5-6pm), then enjoy your night at the onsens :)
