Yufuin, a city near Fukuoka, Japan, is famous for its hot springs. I've always wanted to visit, and I finally made it! As a hot spring town, there were many different hot spring accommodations. My wife and I wanted to go somewhere with a nice view while soaking in the hot springs, and since we were there, we decided to try a kaiseki restaurant. We ended up choosing Yamano Hotel Musouen!
We had to take a taxi from Yufuin Station, which cost about 700 yen. We booked a one-night stay in a tatami room, including a kaiseki dinner and breakfast, for around 400,000 won! The hotel was impressive from the moment we got out of the taxi. The hotel itself was so large, it felt like a village.
First of all, our room was larger than I expected, and it was nice to have separate sleeping and snack areas. There was no shower. There was only a sink and toilet, so it felt like you had to go to a hot spring to wash up.
There were about seven different baths, and we mostly enjoyed the open-air bath. There were two open-air family baths, and luckily, one was always empty, so we used that one most of the time. The water was incredibly good. Even just sitting for a short while made my body feel smooth.
And sitting outside, I could see the snow-capped mountains in the distance, and the falling snow was an unforgettable moment.
The next morning, my wife went to the women-only open-air bath, and I went to the men-only open-air bath. This is the real view! 👍🏻👍🏻
It was much larger than the family bath, and the temperature was better for me than the hot family bath, which was too hot. The view was amazing! If you visit Musouen, be sure to try the private open-air bath.
The kaiseki course meal was perfect for our tastes. Be sure to order draft beer to go with it. Breakfast was also delicious. Reviews say the rice is so delicious, and I immediately understood. Haha. I highly recommend ordering the kaiseki course meal and experiencing it for yourself!
