A Comprehensive Guide to Immersive Travel in Yunnan

The following is a 10–12 day immersive travel guide that connects classic and niche attractions, allowing you to experience the beauty of nature and culture.

Itinerary

Day 1–2 Kunming: Enjoy the scenery of Dianchi Lake, visit the Stone Forest, and check out Dounan Flower Market in the evening. Photography enthusiasts should not miss Dongchuan Red Land. Must-try foods include Crossing-the-Bridge Noodles and Steamed Chicken in a Pot.
Day 3–4 Dali: Stroll around Dali Ancient City, cycle around Erhai Lake, and check out Xizhou Ancient Town. Visit Shaxi Ancient Town along the way to experience the charm of the Ancient Tea Horse Road. It is recommended to watch the sunrise from a guesthouse in Shuanglang.
Day 5–6 Lijiang: Avoid the crowds and visit Lijiang Ancient City, climb Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, stroll around Baisha and Shuhe Ancient Towns, or hike to Yuhu Village.
Day 7–8 Lugu Lake: Take a tour around the lake, including the Lige Peninsula and the Walking Marriage Bridge, experience a Mosuo family visit, and stay overnight in a lakeside inn to watch the stars.
Day 9–10 Shangri-La: Visit Songzanlin Monastery and Dukezong Ancient City, and hike in Pudacuo National Park. If you have enough time, you can challenge the Yubeng hiking route on Meili Snow Mountain.

Travel Tips

The attractions are scattered, so it is recommended to rent a car or hire a car. Shangri-La and Jade Dragon Snow Mountain are at high altitudes, so be careful to prevent altitude sickness. Prepare clothing according to the season, and remember to bring sunscreen. If time is limited, a 7–8 day classic loop from Kunming to Lugu Lake can also be enjoyable.
