🏯 Chaotian Temple in Beigang, Yunlin, is the main sanctuary of Mazu worship in Taiwan. Founded in 1694, when Monk Shubi invited Mazu to Taiwan from Chaotian Pavilion on Meizhou Island, it is a designated national monument. Dedicated to the Holy Mother of Heaven, the temple boasts a majestic architecture and is renowned for its exquisite woodcarvings, stone carvings, and paper-cutting techniques. Known as the "Violet Temple," it is a treasure trove of craftsmanship. Every year in the third month of the lunar calendar, the temple celebrates Mazu, attracting millions of pilgrims. The "Beigang Mazu Welcome" procession is particularly celebrated, making it a significant national folk tradition. Its religious and cultural influence is profound, with branches spread across the globe, making it a core site for faith, art, and folklore.
