|Built by Guo Ziyi during the Tang Dynasty. Wanzicheng was the first pass on the ancient "Yangchangban Road" leading to Shanxi. It has been a strategic military thoroughfare since ancient times and a place of contention for military strategists of all dynasties. Wanzi City was built by troops led by General Guo Ziyi of the Tang Dynasty. It was the garrison for troops guarding Tianjing Pass in all dynasties. It controlled the key points of Ze (Zezhou Prefecture, now Jincheng, Shanxi) and Huai (Huaiqing Prefecture, now Qinyang, Henan) and was surrounded by narrow and winding roads. The city wall was built against the cliff and is not large in scale. The name comes from this castle-like building, which is made of bluestone and is in the shape of a "round bowl". "It is shaped like a bowl, so it is called Wanzi City."
Wanzicheng, as part of the ancient Yangchang Slope Road, is a controversial place. This ancient road and the castle are no longer as busy as they used to be. Their existence is more for some symbolic significance. In the 43 years from 1965 to the present, this place has become the focus of dispute between Changping Village and Jinmiaopu Town, and it is also a place where Shanxi and Henan provinces have disputed jurisdiction. It is like two neighboring families in the same village, both of which can reserve a ten-foot alley for each other, but are not allowed to occupy any more land.
