During the weekends, Xiamen is always crowded. As a local, I just want to escape to somewhere else, so I chose the 'Wuyu Island' which is not far from Xiamen.

Wuyu Island belongs to Zhangzhou and is a small fishing village. To my surprise, the island has not yet connected to tap water. The owner told me that from the second half of the year, tap water will be connected. Therefore, you can still see many wells in use here.

️Wuyu West Port Pier: Densely packed fishing boats docked on the sea, giving a feeling of the Battle of Red Cliffs from afar.

️Streets and Houses: There are many wells on the streets, and you can often see many flowers and home-grown vegetables beside the houses. You often see cats🐈, and some cats even sleep on the rooftops. On the road, you can see people drying seafood, and sometimes you can see women repairing fishing nets in the shade.

️Houjiang Beach: There are many black reefs, and during high tide, the waves crash against the reefs repeatedly, which is very spectacular. Taking a walk by the sea after a meal is very pleasant.

30 RMB one-way from Xiamen Heping Pier
10 RMB one-way from Zhangzhou Doumei Pier

🏝Wuyu Island has fewer flights, so you need to return to Zhangzhou or Xiamen before sunset. Therefore, a day trip here can be quite rushed. Personally, I suggest staying overnight if you are not in a hurry. This way, you can see the sunrise and sunset on the island, and at night, you can see beautiful starry skies due to the lack of light pollution🌌.
