Zhangzhou Nanshan Zen Temple was originally built during the Tang Dynasty, with the existing buildings dating from the late Qing Dynasty and modern restorations. This temple is a famous monastery in southern Fujian, the ancestral temple of the Linji sect of Chan Buddhism, He Yun school, and a nationally recognized religious activity site.
The temple grounds are not very large, but from the mountain gate, the Hall of Heavenly Kings to the Mahavira Hall, the courtyards are open and bright, lush with flowers and trees, solemn in appearance, and rich with incense smoke. Entering the temple calms the mind and quickly dispels worldly worries.
If you visit during the day, general tourists usually have to pay a 10 yuan entrance fee. However, the temple is open until 8:30 PM, and if you come later, there is no interference. That was my experience this time. Entering the temple at night, it was silent and deserted, with only a crescent moon hanging like a hook, gazing from afar.
