Stillness and Sacrifice: A Quiet Pause at Beifa Martyrs Monument, Zhengzhou

At the heart of Bishagang Park, beneath whispering trees and wide skies, stands a solemn stone stele: the Beifa Martyrs Monument. It’s easy to stroll past picnic blankets and dancing grannies—but pause here, and the park shifts.

This monument honors the soldiers lost during the Northern Expedition. Carved with Nie Rongzhen’s bold calligraphy, its words—“Eternal Glory to the Fallen”—rise tall against the skyline. Below, stone reliefs show troops marching forward, frozen in motion but heavy with meaning.

Around it, life unfolds softly. Locals kick shuttlecocks, practice tai chi, and rest on the lawns, weaving memory into their daily rhythm. It’s history without a museum—present, grounded, and respectfully lived with.
