Travel around the Maldives Atoll

From swiftly booking our getaway to receiving updates from the hotel, enquiring about special occasions, and getting help with seaplane bookings and immigration forms, our dealings with The Standard have been outstanding. Upon leaving the airport, The Standard's kiosk promptly directed us to the seaplane (additional cost of about £400 each, so budget for this) with baggage check-in and a brief bus ride to the lounge being stress-free. After a short wait with a refreshing cold facecloth around the neck, we boarded the seaplane. My wife, who usually suffers from motion sickness, found the flight smooth. Do use the earplugs provided by the pilots. The 45-minute flight over little oasis islands with their breathtaking blue waters leaves you in awe and eager to enjoy the island. The plane touches down near the island, and a speedboat takes you across. Upon arriving at the dock, the friendly staff greets you warmly before escorting each party to the lobby with a coconut lolly and cold facecloth. Poula, our host, was incredibly welcoming, answering all our questions before giving us a quick island tour via golf buggy to our villa. He kept us informed on daily activities and was available on WhatsApp, ensuring our stay was pleasant with his hearty laugh. Accommodation-wise, we selected the lagoon villa boasting beautiful lagoon views and island scenery. It seemed to us the best choice as you can enjoy the island's vista, small island, and varying blue hues. While ocean villas have ocean views with coral and sea life, you can easily snorkel to see eagle rays, stingrays, a variety of fish, turtles, and occasional black tip reef sharks around the villa. It's like staying in an aquarium. Villas further from the island offer superior views; you can watch the sunrise and enjoy sunsets with a drink at the Beru Bar. Our villa was kept impeccably clean (twice a day) by Mohsin, ensuring our minibar stayed stocked with beer (don't forget to sign the card each time). The spacious bathroom provides glass floor areas revealing water and fish views while showering. The view from the sleeping area is breathtaking, enhanced by relaxing in the plunge pool/jacuzzi with a cold beer. The hotel provides snorkel gear, a lifejacket, and a bright pink tube for carefree floating in the water. They've installed multi-adapter power points accommodating most global plugs.Dining at the resort was superb. The attentive restaurant staff, from all over the world, were friendly and eager to converse. The buffet offered a variety of selections, and the à la carte options were excellent. The food at Joos bar was particularly great, especially the crispy sweet potato fries. The restaurant views were stunning. For activities, various options are included in the all-inclusive package, though motor sports incur additional charges. There’s table tennis and a pool table for rainy days. We tried the manta ray experience, which was out of season, and still saw three of these magnificent creatures. In peak seasons, seeing hundreds is possible. Overall, our experience with The Standard was exceptional, and we highly recommend it. Consider staying for at least 10 nights; our 7-night stay felt too short. Or try a twin stay to explore a different island and avoid cabin fever!
