The Zhengzhou Confucian Temple was first built during the Yongping era of the Eastern Han Dynasty. It was rebuilt and renovated throughout the dynasties, reaching its full completion in the Ming Dynasty. After being destroyed by fire, the Dacheng Hall was rebuilt in the 24th year of the Guangxu Emperor's reign. It is a national first-class protected cultural relic.
The hall enshrines Confucius and his disciples. Upon entering, one can see countless wishes made by people (for college entrance exams, postgraduate entrance exams, and civil service exams). The courtyard contains over a hundred ancient cypress trees, the oldest being over 1300 years old. The Confucian Temple as a whole gives a grand and imposing impression.
The image of Confucius, the teacher of all ages, is embodied here. This building is imbued with Confucianism. The Confucian Temple has a history of 2000 years. Although it is a reconstruction on the original site and cannot recreate its former grandeur, its location opposite the Shang Dynasty Ruins Museum makes it a highly recommended stop after visiting the museum to experience the scholarly atmosphere of the Confucian Temple.
