🏯Zhongshan Hidden Treasure Ancient Temple | Encounter Tranquility and Piety

#Zhongshan Itinerary

During the leisure time on the weekend, I strolled through the streets and alleys of Zhongshan and unexpectedly came across Xishan Temple hidden in the city. In an instant, I was deeply attracted by the ancient charm and tranquil atmosphere it exudes. At this moment, I can't wait to share this private, niche and healing check-in strategy with everyone👇

📜A treasure in the long river of history
Xishan Temple was first built during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty. It was originally a place for local scholar Mao Kezhen to study, and was later converted into a temple. It has undergone multiple expansions and reconstructions during the reigns of Shunzhi, Kangxi, Qianlong, Jiaqing, and Xianfeng in the Qing Dynasty, as well as in the 10th year of the Republic of China (1921) and 1988. It has a history of more than 400 years and is a quiet Buddhist place highly respected by Zhongshan citizens. In 1990, it was announced as a municipal cultural relic protection unit by the Zhongshan Municipal People's Government.

🏯The beauty of architecture and the long-lasting ancient charm
Xishan Temple faces south and is three yards deep. It adopts a gable roof and raised-beam wooden structure. There are wing rooms on both sides of the front hall, the two corridors on both sides of the patio have curved roofs, there are side halls on both sides of the back hall, and the third hall is a two-story building with cement and red brick structure. The ground floor is a monk's quarters and the upper floor is used for storing scriptures. The horizontal plaque on the temple reads "Renshou Zen Temple", and the couplets on the left and right read: "The old shade of red cotton trees, the blessed land is restored to its glory". The upper inscription reads "Summer of the first year of Xianfeng", and the lower inscription reads "Written by Zhang Yutang of Xunzhou". The mountain gate outside the temple is inlaid with stone couplets and stone horizontal plaques.

🌸Harmonious coexistence of nature and humanity
Xishan Temple is located by the mountains and water, with an elegant environment. There is a half-moon pond in front of the temple, supported by three granite stones. The pond is 44 cm deep and 2.5 meters long. According to legend, in the Song Dynasty, there were six kapok trees planted around the temple. Due to the passage of time, the trees withered, so the monks of the Ming Dynasty replanted them here. Therefore, the mountain path under the trees is called "Six Cotton Ancient Road". Inlaid on the wall of the temple is a 2-meter-long and 95-centimeter-wide stone tablet. It was engraved in the sixth year of Emperor Xianfeng's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1856) and is written in black granite in regular script. Each character is 3 centimeters. The inscription records in detail the historical evolution and renovation of Xishan Temple.

🙏The pure land of the soul, the holy place for blessing
This is not only a place for Buddhist believers to worship and pray, but also a good place for many tourists to experience history and culture and seek inner peace. On the eighth day of the sixth lunar month every year, Xishan Temple holds a large-scale Buddhist event, when pilgrims from all over the country and even the world gather here to pray for good health.
