I can't accept that there are still people who haven't visited Dongji Island! This hidden gem, named as one of "China's Top 10 Most Beautiful Islands" by National Geographic, is not only the filming location for "The Continent" but also the first place in mainland China to receive the morning sunlight. It's romantic and off the beaten path - any photo you take here will dominate your social media feed 📸
📍 Location: Dongji Town, Putuo District, Zhoushan City, Zhejiang Province
🚗 Transportation:
1. First, get to Wugongzhi Pier in Zhujiajian, Zhoushan:
- From Ningbo: Take a bus from Ningbo South Bus Station, approximately 1.5 hours, around 50 yuan.
- From Shanghai: Purchase a combined bus-ferry ticket at Nanpu Passenger Station. Take a bus to Shenjiawan Pier, then a ferry to Zhujiajian Wugongzhi Pier. The entire journey takes about 4 hours and costs around 200 yuan.
2. From Zhujiajian Wugongzhi Pier, take a ferry to Dongji Island:
- Book tickets 7 days in advance through the "Zhoushan Haixing Ferry" Princess or "Zhiyou Haixing" mini-program. Ferry tickets are priced at 100 yuan for lower deck, 130 yuan for middle deck, and 150 yuan for upper deck. The ferry ride takes about 2 hours. If you get seasick easily, choose the middle or lower deck. During peak season, tickets are extremely hard to get, so be ready 10-15 minutes before they go on sale and set an alarm!
🏠 Accommodation:
- Miaozi Lake Island: Well-equipped and convenient. Recommended: "Dongji Lanhai Ocean View Oxygen Design Guesthouse" - luxurious decor, spacious rooms, first-line sea views where you can watch sunrise and sunset from your bed, priced at 500-1000 yuan per night.
- Dongfushan Island: More natural, perfect for watching the sunrise. "Zhoushan Dongji The Continent Guesthouse (Dongfushan Branch)" offers good value, close to the sunrise observation deck, making it super convenient for early morning sunrise viewing, 200-500 yuan per night.
🌟 Must-visit spots:
1. Miaozi Lake Island:
- Cai Bogong Statue: The iconic landmark of Dongji Island, featured in the movie "The Continent." With the blue sea and sky as background, it's extremely photogenic.
- Daodou Street: The busiest commercial street on the island with various specialty shops and seafood stalls. Here you can find shell crafts, Dongji specialty postcards, and taste authentic local snacks.
- Dongji History and Culture Museum: Learn about the past and present of Dongji Island. The museum displays ancient fishing tools, nautical charts, and exhibits about the life of island fishermen.
2. Dongfushan Island:
- Elephant Trunk Peak: The highest point on Dongfushan Island, shaped like an elephant's trunk extending toward the sea. The hike up is a bit tiring, but once at the top, you'll have a stunning panoramic view of the entire island and endless sea - a perfect spot for photos.
- Dashuwan Stone Houses: Distinctive island-style stone houses scattered along the seaside. Built with stacked stones and covered with seaweed roofs, they're full of rustic fishing village charm, like stepping into a fairy tale.
- First Ray of Sunlight Observation Deck: You must wake up early to catch the sunrise on Dongfushan Island! Arrive at the observation deck between 4-5 AM to wait for the sun to rise from the sea. The golden sunlight washing over you creates an indescribable feeling.
3. Qingbang Island:
- Sea Potala Palace: The island's buildings are constructed along the mountainside, layer upon layer, resembling the West
