Chanlin Temple is located in Zunhua City, Tangshan, and is home to a rare ancient ginkgo forest in the north.
The 13 ancient ginkgo trees in the temple are over 1,500 years old, with the largest having a circumference of 6m. In autumn, the golden color is brilliant, like a Buddhist picture scroll. The temple was built in the Han Dynasty, integrating Buddhist culture and natural wonders, and is suitable for praying and photography.
Transportation Guide
Self-driving: About 2 hours from Beijing/Tianjin, navigate to "Chanlin Temple Scenic Area", free parking.
Public transportation: Take the Zunhua bus from Tangshan Fengrun Bus Station, then take a taxi to get there directly; or take a taxi from the Qing Dong Mausoleum, which is a 15-minute ride.
Visiting Tips
1. Best season: late October to early November (when the ginkgo leaves are yellow), the light is best in the early morning.
2. Tickets: CNY 20/person, half price for those over 60 years old, free for students with a certificate.
3. Route suggestion: Shanmen → Ancient Ginkgo Group → Grand Hall of the Great Buddha → Guanyin Pavilion, the whole journey takes about 1 hour on foot.
4. Featured experience: The temple provides vegetarian food (CNY 20/person), and you can taste ginkgo stewed chicken.
Precautions
Climbing around ancient trees is prohibited to protect cultural relics.
The scenic area is small, so it is recommended to arrange a day trip with the Qing Dong Mausoleum (10-minute drive).
Surrounding linkage
It is 4 km away from the Qing Dong Mausoleum, which can be visited in series; on the return trip, you can stop by the Zunhua Tangquan Royal Tourist Resort (hot spring relaxation).
Summary: Chanlin Temple is famous for its "ancient ginkgo temple", which combines historical weight and natural wildness. It is especially amazing to visit in autumn, and is suitable for culture lovers and photography enthusiasts.
