The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau self-driving tour in June and July 2018 passed through 10 provinces including Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Sichuan, Tibet, Qinghai, Gansu, Shaanxi, Hubei, and Jiangxi, lasting 39 days and covering 12,900 kilometers. During the long journey, I watched the infinite scenery along the way, visited many places of interest, and was always shocked, emotional, excited, and happy by the majestic, magical, holy, fascinating, or charming scenery. Among them, the most memorable, memorable, and most memorable is the Everest base camp at an altitude of 5,200 meters in Everest National Park, where you can experience the majesty of Mount Everest, the top of the world, up close, and witness the highest altitude of life.

Mount Everest, which means the third goddess in Tibetan, is located on the border between Dingzhi and Nepal in the Shigatse region of Tibet, at an altitude of 8844.43 meters (the latest measured height is 8848.86 meters), and is the main peak of the Himalayas and the highest peak in the world. There are 4 peaks above 8,000 meters around Mount Everest, and more than 40 peaks above 7,000 meters, which is the third pole of the earth.
Everest Base Camp is a protected area set up to protect the core area of Mount Everest, at an altitude of 5,200 meters, which is the best location to see the top of the world up close, and it is also the starting point and base camp for many climbers to conquer Mount Everest from the northern front, and it is also the closest point for us tourists who have not received the slightest professional training in mountaineering to be able to see Mount Everest in Everest National Park.

June 23 is a great challenge and severe test for my life, and it is also a big dream in life. A group of 4 of us drove from Shantou City, Guangdong Province on June 4, and after a long journey of more than 5,000 kilometers, today we finally drove the car to the foot of Mount Everest, the third pole of the earth and the highest peak in the world, to the Everest base camp in Everest National Park.
In the morning, I set off from Baiba Town, Dingri County, and arrived at the checkpoint not far away, where I needed to get out of the car to check my ID card and border guard certificate. Continue to the gate of Everest National Park, where you can buy your park tickets. One car is 400 yuan (including one driver), and each other is 90 yuan, and the driver's ID card, driver's license, and car driving license must be copied. There is a clear sign at the park gate where you can take photos.
A short walk into Everest National Park will take you past the Gawula Pass Observation Deck at an altitude of 5,198 meters. Standing on the observation deck, you can not only see Mount Everest, but also three other peaks with an altitude of more than 8,000 feet, Mount Cho Oyu, Mount Lhotse and Mount Makalu. At the same pass, you can overlook four peaks of more than 8,000 meters, which is unique in the 318 National Highway Sichuan-Tibet Line and even all the passes crossed by roads in the world. The weather is better in the morning, and you can clearly see Mount Everest and the other three polar peaks here. When I stood on the observation deck of the Jiawula Pass and looked at Mount Everest in the distance, my heart was shaken. The top of the world, the third goddess - Mount Everest, we are here!!

Continue to move forward, driving the car on a winding mountain road at an altitude of more than 4,000 meters. To climb countless steep slopes and go through countless sharp turns, it is said that there are 108 turns. Fortunately, the more than 110-kilometer mountain road from Dingri Baiba to Everest Base Camp has been repaired in the previous stage, and some of the winding mountain roads have just been repaired recently. The road is not wide but very smooth, the visibility is generally good at sharp turns, and there are not many vehicles that day, and it feels good to drive a car. In the past, it was all rugged, potholed dirt roads, and washboard roads, which were very bumpy, "eyes in heaven, in hell", and it took at least 5 or 6 hours to walk on the mountain road of more than 100 kilometers, but now the road is good and can be reached in less than 3 hours.
When we were about to arrive at the Everest base camp, we checked the ID card and border guard card again at the foot of the world's highest temple, Rongbu Temple, and then we finally drove the car into the Everest base camp at an altitude of 5,200 meters. What an exciting time! It is really not easy and difficult to come to Mount Everest after going through countless hardships and overcoming many difficulties. Joy, excitement, and pride hang on everyone's face. Although this is the place that everyone who loves to travel yearns for the most in their lives, due to the constraints of many factors, it was something that was not even dreamed of before, but now they not only actually come here, but also experience scenes that could only be seen in film and television and media before. The excitement is indescribable. Although the weather conditions are only average and have a great impact on the landscape, everything that comes into view is still very shocking.
Aftera short break, we came to the Everest Observation Deck. There is a stone monument inscribed with the inscription "Everest Base Camp, 5,200 meters above sea level". Here, everyone looks up to the third pole of the earth with awe and lets everything in front of them baptize their hearts. In this way, while gazing at Mount Everest not far away, taking photos to witness and commemorate the highest altitude of life. The weather on the plateau was changing rapidly, and the weather in the morning was not bad, but when we arrived at the Everest base camp at noon, the weather had deteriorated, and the clouds obscured part of Mount Everest. When you can see Mount Everest up close, but you can't clearly see the entire Mount Everest, what regrets you think will be!

It is a short walk from the 5,200-meter-high monument of the Everest base camp to reach the Everest Elevation Measurement Monument, which is the closest place to Mount Everest, and it is said that those who need to hold a mountain permit to go further will be allowed. Although the distance is not very far, it is still a bit tiring to walk at such a high altitude. We walked slowly, but fortunately, the wind was not very strong (there was a lot of wind here), the temperature was not very low (about 5 or 6 degrees), and it didn't feel very cold. I took another photo at the Everest Elevation Measurement Monument, and looked at the Rongbu Glacier, which is also not easy to see for ordinary tourists (once rated as the first of the six most beautiful glaciers in China by China National Geographic), and then slowly walked back to the base camp to visit the tent hotel built by Tibetans, stalls selling souvenirs and the world's highest Everest post office. It is in such a place without a bit of green, thin air, and almost primitive that you can most deeply feel the greatness of nature and the smallness of people. We stayed at the Everest base camp for more than two hours.
At this point, the biggest highlight and most memorable one-day tour of Mount Everest Base Camp in this self-driving tour of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau comes to an end. Thankfully, our group of 4 people was full of energy and in good condition; It is very regrettable that when I arrived at the Everest base camp, the weather was average, which affected the landscape. Staying at such a high altitude for such a long time, without any discomfort, and seeing Mount Everest up close, witnessing the highest altitude in life, and feeling the unpredictable climate of the Everest region, all of this is very rare and precious! Although it is hard, it is well worth it. I am very content and grateful to have such a rare experience and experience in my life!

Tips
1. To go to the Everest Base Camp, you need to apply for a border guard certificate. It can be done at the place of household registration, or it can be entrusted to a travel agency in Lhasa or Shigatse. When applying for a certificate, the place of destination must be written in Shigatse area, Dingri County, and Everest area.
2. The weather in the Everest base camp area is unpredictable, and the temperature difference between morning and evening is very large, so remember to bring enough warm clothes no matter when you go. If you want to stay overnight at the base camp, you should pay more attention to this, and don't catch a cold or catch a cold.
3. The altitude of the Everest area is very high, and the altitude of 5,200 meters in the base camp is almost limited for ordinary tourists and other non-trained mountaineers. Therefore, special attention needs to be paid to preventing altitude sickness, walking slowly, and never running, jumping and other strenuous exercises.
4. According to reports, in order to protect the ecological environment of the Everest area, the original Everest base camp has been permanently closed since the end of 2018. Now the base camp that tourists can go to has been withdrawn a lot, especially since self-driving is no longer allowed. Visitors need to buy a ticket at the entrance of Everest National Park to enter by taking the park's eco-friendly vehicle.
5. If the weather conditions are good, especially if the body is well adapted, it is recommended to stay at the Everest base camp for one night. Although the hardware conditions are tough there, the evening and early morning sights are sure to make you feel well worth it. At that time, because we were worried about the high altitude of the base camp, we were afraid that we would not be able to adapt to the long stay, so we did not dare to arrange to stay there for one night, missing a lot, leaving great regrets.
6. Go to the Everest Base Camp, or choose to live in Baiba Town, Dingri County, which is only more than 100 kilometers away from the Everest Base Camp and has an altitude of 4,400 meters. Although it is just a small town, it is like a transit station for many tourists to go to the Everest base camp, where there is food and accommodation, which is quite convenient.
