Wannian Temple is located on a ridge and is one of the top ten temples on Mount Emei. The beamless hall in the courtyard is a national treasure building. The semicircular hollow dome has a square base and is shaped like a yurt, overlooking like a mandala. The style is very similar to the Nirvana Hall in Kushinaga, India. In 1600, the Wanli Emperor celebrated his mother's birthday and donated this Buddhist hall, and the bronze statue enshrined in the inner hall of the temple was 620 years earlier than the Buddhist hall.
In the fifth year of the Song Dynasty's Taiping Xingguo (980), local officials in Sichuan repeatedly reported to the emperor that the Bodhisattva Puxian appeared on Mount Emei. The emperor, who believed in Buddhism, issued an edict to appoint officials from the Ministry of Works to Chengdu to supervise the construction of a bronze statue of Puxian Bodhisattva riding a six-tusked white elephant. The bronze statue was cast in sections, transported more than 300 miles south to Wannian Temple, and riveted.
The scene of "White Water Autumn Wind" reflects the unique charm of Wannian Temple. Because of the low altitude, it is built on the ridge, and it is colorful every autumn. The snow-capped view from the golden dome is reflected in the white water pool in the temple grounds. Listening to the sound of frogs like a piano and smelling the fragrance of osmanthus is refreshing, so it is called "White Water Autumn Wind" (one of the ten views of Mount Emei). At this time, the top of Mount Emei was in the middle of wind and snow, and the snow had turned into drizzle when it fell to Wannian Temple, and the autumn wind had not yet gone away, and the charm was still there.
Leaving Wannian Temple, walk in the direction of Qingyin Pavilion, and pass by a temple called "White Dragon Cave", which is said to be the place where the White Lady practiced. When you walk here, you will enter the fairy plot of Mount Emei. The couplet in front of the door reads "The white dragon passed on the good story of the ages, and the seven-fold treasure tree is planted by the clouds", yes, this is the Qingfeng Cave often mentioned in "The Legend of the New White Lady".
Legend has it that a white snake, who has been cultivating in the White Dragon Cave of Mount Emei for a long time, has some mana, swims to the heavenly court, steals the peach from the Queen Mother's peach orchard, greatly increases his Taoist practice, and returns to Mount Emei to continue his cultivation, and finally becomes a snake immortal. Later, the snake fairy met Xu Xian, who came to Mount Emei to collect medicine in West Lake, Hangzhou, and was moved by his heart and formed a good relationship, which led to the estranged story of "The Legend of the White Snake".
Soon I walked to the Qingyin Pavilion, which is the source of the "Double Bridge Qingyin", one of the ten scenic spots of Mount Emei. The Bailongjiang River that comes around Wannian Temple and the Heilongjiang River that comes around Hongchumping converge here.
All year round, day and night, the sound of water echoes, this sound of water is single and clear, plus two bridges, so it is known as "double bridge clear sound". Two water veins, two valleys, and also converge tourists on two mountain roads. Perhaps the clear sound of the double bridge is too wonderful, and the pavilion is full of tourists who are in a daze.
Along the Heilongjiang River, going upstream, turning around a narrow mountain pass, you will encounter a group of monkeys. We have prepared the food, and they eat it all in an instant. For the monkeys of Mount Emei, the offerings of tourists seem to be taken for granted, after all, they have been the majesty of a master.
It turns out that when ancient people cultivated immortals, they would always find a place very close to the sky, so Mount Emei became the first choice. The origin of the martial arts of the Emei school is said to have been learned from monkeys.
Influenced by the culture of witches, there were many literati and alchemists in history who lived in Mount Emei to cultivate Taoism and become immortals. According to Fang Zhizai: The Warring States White Ape moved the spirit child, created a set of flexible offensive and defensive Emei Tongjifists, and also created the "Ape Gong Swordsmanship", and the "Ape Gong Swordsmanship" is the prototype of the contemporary "Emei Sword". Tang Shunzhi, an anti-Japanese general of the Ming Dynasty, once said in "Emei Daoist Fist Song": The Taoist's technique is taught by the white ape in the mountains, and his methods are changeable and as fast as lightning...... With such a martial arts background, Mount Emei has been highly regarded in martial arts novels in modern times.
I believe that most of my friends' impression of Mount Emei comes from the "Condor Trilogy" in Jin Yong's martial arts novel. I originally planned to stay at Xianfeng Temple halfway up the mountain at night, but due to insufficient equipment and it started to rain again, I turned back to Wuxian Hill before dark. Here it is still recommended that well-prepared friends take this route to the mountain. After all, the famous places such as Hongchun Ping, Jiulao Cave, Xianfeng Temple, Yuxian Temple, Huayan Peak, and Xixiang Pool are all classic scenery of Mount Emei.
