Heshun Ancient Town

和顺古镇

Heshun Ancient Town is located 4 kilometers west of Tengchong County. It is a famous hometown of overseas Chinese in Yunnan Province. It is also an important town on the Ancient Tea-Horse Road and a must-go place on the Southwest Silk Road.
The ancient town buildings are built around the mountains. Ancestral halls, memorial archways and ancient houses from the Ming and Qing dynasties are scattered throughout the ancient town. Li Genyuan, the acting prime minister of the Republic of China, praised Heshun in a poem: "It is far better than Suzhou and Hangzhou."
Tengchong has three treasures: Tengxuan, Tengyao and Tengbian. In Heshun Library, you can see craftsmen making Xuan paper using traditional methods. If you are interested, you can buy some to take home.
The various snacks in the ancient town, such as Cun's bean powder and Aunt Lin's pine cake, all have the taste of time. You can find a restaurant to sit down and try them, which is worth the trip.

The initial idea of coming to Heshun Ancient Town was somewhat influenced by the TV series "My Captain, My Regiment". On the one hand, it was to commemorate the past ten years, and on the other hand, I also wanted to appreciate the cultural accumulation of the border town. Two days were arranged, and the raw materials were more than enough in a small space, but when I arrived, I realized that it was far from enough. Heshun is a place worth slowing down and experiencing. Even if you are not interested in those stories of the Republic of China, you can safely find a quiet inn, make a cup of tea, watch the sunset, the stars in the sky, and wait for the next morning to catch the morning market on both sides of the main road. The ups and downs of the slopes, the winding alleys, the step stones that have been tempered by wind and frost... and the enthusiastic and measured locals will unconsciously make outsiders relax. Perhaps some people think that Heshun is also tainted with the atmosphere of commercialization. Indeed, this is an undeniable fact, but a completely undeveloped old town may not be suitable for the consumption needs of most tourists. Heshun is just right now, at least in my opinion - you can find food and accommodation, but you are not yet enslaved by the superficial world. I have been away for a short time, but I miss it. Tengchong, Heshun, I really look forward to meeting you next time.

Entering the ancient town at night, it feels like being in the south of the Yangtze River. I was surprised that there is such an exquisite town in this remote place. Under the shade of lights at night, surrounded by clear water and lush ancient trees, several memorial archways are clearly visible, shining like jade. The buildings in the town are carved with beams and painted with eaves. The town is built on the mountain, and the alleys go up the slope. There is an exquisite memorial archway at the entrance of each alley, with quaint names on them.

It turns out that Heshun is not an ordinary place. It was once a must-pass place on the ancient "Southwest Silk Road" and an important town for horse caravans. The ancient town has a history of more than 600 years and was built in the Ming Dynasty. Most of the original residents were soldiers and merchants from the Central Plains and Sichuan who guarded the border. They had high cultural literacy and strong material foundation. The essence of overseas culture and the exchange and integration of traditional Chinese culture have created a regional culture with Heshun characteristics. Various architectural styles blend here and coexist harmoniously. Ancestral halls, memorial archways, and folk houses from the Ming and Qing Dynasties are scattered throughout the ancient town.

In the morning light, walking on the road paved with volcanic stones, walking through the alleys, you can carefully appreciate the quaint and elegant charm of this small town. When you sit down at a place, you will want to sit there quietly, watching time slip away through your fingers... When you walk to the bustling market, you can't help but be attracted by the lively market life, to see the fresh seasonal vegetables, local snacks, and the famous Mao tofu. Look at all kinds of people carrying baskets or children on the narrow streets...

You may encounter cultural traces at every corner of the alley. The century-old Heshun Library is the largest rural library in China, with a collection of more than 70,000 books, more than 10,000 ancient books and rare books, which still benefit local people. The site of the Yunnan-Burma Anti-Japanese War Museum is the former site of the Expeditionary Force's counterattack on Tengchong. The ancestral halls of the eight major surnames, Cun, Liu, Li, Yin, Jia, Zhang, Chuan, and Yang, are scattered among the houses, with different styles. The Cun Clan Ancestral Hall is a landmark building in Heshun, incorporating elements of South Asian and Western architectural design, revealing the rhythmic beauty of a combination of Chinese and Western styles. The gate of the ancestral hall draws on the architectural shape of the Roman arch, and the two platforms outside the gate and the two tall poles standing on the left and right are traditional Chinese architectural styles. The ancestral hall is a blood temple for wanderers who have left their homes to return home to find their roots. It is also the four characters "Republic of China Centenarians" on the lintel of the Hejia Clan Centenary Wooden Archway, which were written by Cai E, the governor of Yunnan Province.

Every few steps along the river, there is a pavilion where village women wash their clothes. This is a laundry pavilion built by a Heshun man who has traveled far away to protect the women at home from the wind and sun when washing clothes. This is such a caring love, shining with the glory of humanity, and it is unique in Heshun.

The inn we stayed in was run by an old couple. They respected Teacher Song, who was younger than them, and called him "Teacher Song". After paying the cleaning fee, Boss Cun sighed and said that it was right, because it was not easy to transport the garbage. Primary school students in school uniforms picked up garbage while walking on the way to school. Commercialization has swept ancient towns across the country, but the most terrifying thing is the commercialization of people's hearts. Fortunately, today's Heshun is still peaceful and people's hearts are still simple, which should be due to its profound cultural heritage.

There are not many people in the ancient town at the end of February after the Spring Festival. If you want to visit the whole town, it will take at least half a day. Here are some practical tips:

⭐Tickets. There is no ticket required to enter the town, which means that if you just want to visit the ancient town, you can walk around freely. If you want to visit the attractions inside, you need to buy a package ticket (yes, even if you only visit a library, you must buy a package ticket, not sold separately). The ticket is valid for the day, 55 yuan, including more than ten attractions. You can buy it at the door, and there are also small attractions at the entrance. The ticket seller said that the attractions are open until 7:30 pm

Although we only visited three, a library + Wenchang Pavilion at the entrance of the town, and a Cun Clan Ancestral Hall, each of which can be visited in five minutes.

⭐Cars are not allowed in the ancient town, and all cars are parked outside. If you are in good physical condition in the morning, it will take about three or four hours to walk through the ancient town and visit the attractions, but most of the ancient town is on a slope, which is very tiring. We went there in the afternoon and were very tired after walking for more than an hour...

❗Here comes the point. I strongly recommend renting a small yellow car (three-wheeled electric car) for transportation. It is not tiring at all and very comfortable. The best place to rent a car is at the credit union in front of the entrance of the ancient town! Figure 10 You can ride a bike directly into the town

When we couldn't walk any more, we saw people riding electric bikes flying by and we cried with envy, so we went back to the entrance to rent a bike... We walked several more kilometers.

The price is a bit expensive, 70 yuan for an hour and a half, and the overtime is charged by the minute, about 3 yuan per minute 🙂 Pay attention to the extra time

⭐I feel that 80% of the shops in the ancient town are jade shops, the rest are some flower cakes and restaurants, coffee shops and beverage shops are basically not seen, and there are occasional tea houses

I recommend Gu Yue Xuan’s flower cakes, 4.5 each, freshly made and delicious~

⭐There is a small field of rapeseed flowers in full bloom outside the town, and a group of ducks are floating in the canal~

⭐We didn't live in the ancient town, and the main entrance was not accessible by car. We had a lot of suitcases with us, so we had to drag them up the slope to the inn ourselves.

Later it was said that there seemed to be cars on the other side of the lake that could reach the inn, so you can pay attention to the location of the inn when booking.

But the ancient town is also very quiet because there are no cars passing through it. It depends on your choice.

I have been to some ancient towns. I feel that ancient towns all over the country are similar. What are the characteristics of Heshun? The impression left on me is rapeseed flowers, few people, jade shops.

Friends who are going to play, please be sure to watch to the end! ! !

The shops in the ancient town basically sell jade. The scenery is not that good. It feels no different from other ancient towns, and the key is that other ancient towns are still free. Heshun charges a fee but does not reflect the service facilities that a paid scenic spot should have!

We bought tickets on the first day. When we entered, the ticket inspector only said that there was a ticket check inside. But he didn't say why (well, maybe it's my fault for not asking more questions, there were still people waiting to check tickets later). There was also a random map drawn on the ticket stub. We didn't think much about it at the time. In the end, we didn't encounter a ticket check after entering. Then we left after visiting the ancient town that day.

The next day, my family wanted to go to the Yunnan-Burma Anti-Japanese War Museum. The navigation showed that the museum was in Heshun (but we didn't see any signs indicating this museum when we went there on the first day). We thought it should be near Heshun. So we followed the navigation and went around to the side of Heshun through a small road. There was also a dirt road parking lot there. We asked the parking attendant and he told us that it was free to enter the museum and we could go directly to the ancient town through the small road in front. Only then did we realize that there was a small road to enter the ancient town. There was no ticket check yet, which means that this is a "shortcut" to enter the ancient town for free! After we arrived at the ancient town through the small road, we asked several shop owners, but they all gave us different directions. We couldn't find the museum after searching for a long time, and the navigation couldn't find it either. Just when we were about to give up, we saw Figure 2. There was a staircase behind it, and there was a particularly inconspicuous sign on it with the name of the museum written on it... When we were very glad to find the place. Suddenly, a staff member of the scenic spot came and asked for ticket inspection (all the locals I asked before coming here said it was free)... Well, then... I said we came here yesterday and bought tickets, but threw them away when we left the ancient town yesterday. Because we bought the tickets on the Yunnan Tour app, can the record be used as evidence of ticket purchase? As a result, the other party only asked for ticket inspection (she did not say that we could not enter because we bought the tickets yesterday)... Then I was wondering, isn't the purpose of ticket inspection to verify whether the tickets have been purchased? I showed you the ticket purchase evidence, but you still did not allow it... (Forget it, I ended up running with my whole family for nothing!) The key point is that there was no explanation before buying the tickets. There was no mark on the scenic map. We looked around for a long time before we saw such an inconspicuous little staircase... Oh, it was terrible! I hope that friends who are going to visit later will consider this scenic spot more. (The volcanic hot spring is not bad) On the other hand, I hope that Heshun Ancient Town can pay attention to these problems and make improvements...

Once again disappointed with the ancient town.

It is said that Heshun, which is not very commercialized, is full of shops. It is only a few kilometers away from the county town, but the prices of food and accommodation are much higher. Moreover, the narrow stone road is already walked by many people, and motorcycles are often needed. Those motorcycles are really fast and loud. The century-old vegetable street with fireworks is indeed bought by locals, but there is no difference from other vegetable markets. The vegetables sold are still very common. Maybe Heshun is not very commercialized, but the stone shops are not doing well. In winter, Xianhe Wetland is a rotten pond full of dilapidated lotus flowers, but since it is a seasonal attraction, there is no need to say much. There are some wild ducks in the Wild Duck Lake, but they are not very special. The whole ancient town is full of cars, with electric cars and motorcycles the most, and the roofs are all solar water heaters. Although modernization is understandable, from the perspective of travelers, it is very difficult to hide in a few ancient houses.

After the complaints, I have to talk about the good places. There are many quaint houses in the alleys of Heshun, as well as some cultural attractions, which look quite beautiful. There is a nice rapeseed field west of the scenic area, which is in full bloom around the Spring Festival. The river water next to the flower field is very clear and has beautiful reflections. The ancient Thousand-Handed Guanyin tree to the west is also worth seeing.

I don’t know how many ancient towns I have visited, but this one is really a highly recommended one.

We drove an RV, stayed in the parking lot of the ancient town, had our own barbecue at night, and went out for a walk early in the morning.

The residents living there are very nice, and many of the homestays are very unique. The ancient town is well managed, with no exaggerated decorations, and it blends well with the ancient town.

By The sea embraces all rivers |

The whole ancient town, or rather the whole Tengchong, is a place where jade is sold. Whether the goods are good or not depends on the financial resources, but there will be no fakes. The Tengchong government has a very awesome advertisement: if anyone dares to sell fakes and damage the brand of Tengchong jade, we will destroy his business. In this age when even milk powder has fakes, the government has such courage, which is respectable.

In fact, it can be seen that Heshun is still a semi-developed ancient town where tourists and residents coexist. Lao Hu likes this kind of town, which has a breath of life and is not so pretentious and commercial.

There are not many tourists in the ancient town at night, and the temperature is just right. It is beautiful to walk around.

There are many homestays in Heshun Ancient Town, but you must not book the ones inside the ancient city, otherwise you will die from dragging your suitcases. Those are all mountain roads, some of which have slopes of 40 degrees.

"Living ancient town" is the best title for Heshun. It is rare to preserve such a town with a prosperous Central Plains Chinese culture atmosphere in a frontier where soldiers and horses have been mixed for generations. The family halls worshipped by every household convey the importance that the people of Heshun attach to their ancestors and ancestral teachings.

There are not many tourists in Heshun Ancient Town, so check it out before the tourist buses arrive.

It was a bit tight to visit Heshun Ancient Town in the morning. In fact, we only visited the western half of the ancient town, and we didn’t have time to visit the eastern half.

It is very beautiful and primitive. Compared with Zhouzhuang, Wuzhen, Fenghuang and Lijiang, I like this place more. Heshun is a serious mountain town. If you want to live in the ancient town, don't live in the center, otherwise the ups and downs will make you tired of dragging a suitcase. Heshun Town is not small. After measuring it myself, I think it will take more than one day to play.

Heshun Town is located 4 kilometers southwest of Tengchong County. As a small river passes by the village, it was renamed "Heshun". Later, it was refined to its current name, which means "harmony between scholars and people". The town has a population of more than 6,000, and more than 12,000 Heshun people live overseas. It is a famous hometown of overseas Chinese in Yunnan. The closed, traditional and stable environment of Heshun Ancient Town has completely preserved the characteristics of Chinese Ming and Qing culture and is known as a living fossil of ancient Chinese architecture. Although Heshun Ancient Town is opening inns and building, the moment you walk into Heshun Ancient Town, it still seems quiet and peaceful without noise. This place was once an important town for horse caravans and a must-pass place for the ancient "Southwest Silk Road". Various foreign cultures have blended here, but apart from these halos, Heshun still maintains its simple style and has never changed.

Heshun is an ancient town with a long history and was built in the Ming Dynasty. Most of the local Han people are descendants of Sichuanese, Jiangnan people, and Central Plains people who came to Yunnan to engage in military and civilian settlements in the early Ming Dynasty. In the 15th year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1382 AD), "Lan Yu and Mu Ying attacked Dali, divided their troops into Heqing, Lijiang, and Jinchi, and all of them were taken." ("Ming History·Taizu Benji") The five surnames of Heshun, Cun, Li, Yin, Liu, and Jia, were originally from Ba County, Chongqing Prefecture, Sichuan. Their ancestors were ordered to follow Fu Youde, Lan Yu, and Mu Ying to conquer Jinchi and Tengyue at this time. After the incident was settled, the troops were stationed in Tengyue, and they were all awarded for their military merits. For example, Liu Jizong was awarded the general flag officer; Yin Tugong was awarded the commander and was awarded the title of Wulue General; Cun Qing was the commander of the guard and the military counselor; Li Bo and Jia Shouchun were also awarded the commander. Because Yunnan was far away from the capital and there were many wars on the border, a general officer was appointed to guard Yunnan, and the Mu family inherited this position. As the ancestor of the five Heshun surnames under the Mu family, he was also granted official positions and land, and stayed in the border areas for generations, and later lived in "Yangwendun Village".

These people are deeply influenced by Confucianism, and some of them have a high cultural quality. Although they are forced to leave their hometowns due to life and live on the edge of the plateau, the village style, residential architecture, and folk crafts of Heshun are all imbued with and preserve the essence of Central Plains culture. At the same time, it is an "outward-looking" society. The wanderers have absorbed the essence of foreign culture, exchanged and integrated it with traditional local culture, and created a regional culture with Heshun characteristics.

Heshun has the characteristics of a general small town, but it has a history and culture of more than 600 years, and has traditional houses that have gone through many vicissitudes. There are more than 1,000 traditional houses here, including more than 100 houses from the Qing Dynasty, which are known as living fossils of ancient Chinese architecture; its architectural styles include "three courtyards and one screen wall", "quadrangle", "quadrangle and five patios", etc. Here you can appreciate the charm of Huizhou architecture with white walls and black tiles, and you can also find elements of Western architecture. Especially the wooden carvings on the doors and windows of the old house, various carvings are lifelike. The stone steps built with volcanic stones are particularly characteristic of the region in the house, which can play a good anti-slip role in rainy weather.

Walking into Heshun, we are greeted by a picturesque scenery, with clear waters and beautiful mountains, willow trees swaying in the wind, and green shadows dancing in the air. "The distant mountains are vast and boundless, the nearby rivers are melodious, and the slopes of Wanjia are far better than those of Suzhou and Hangzhou."

The best way to visit Heshun Ancient Town is to enjoy the night view of the ancient town outside the town just after dark. Then enter the ancient town, take a night tour first, and stay in the inn in the town. Take another tour the next morning and leave before noon. In the morning, the bar street in the east and the area near the Wild Duck Lake are the most beautiful.

Heshun is built on the mountain, generally facing south and north. If you have a lot of luggage, you should pay attention to the distance from the parking lot to the inn and the height of the mountain. There are about three parking lots at the main entrance and on the east and west sides. I recommend staying at the inn on the eastern side, where there is a lake and you can see the sunrise? There are all kinds of inns in Heshun, depending on your preference.

If the weather is good, you can watch the stars on the roof of the inn.

Heshun Ancient Town itself is of average quality (ancient towns across the country are pretty much the same), with Wild Duck Lake and the small river adding to its beauty, and Yunnan’s specialty, the blue sky and white clouds, giving it extra points.

When I arrived at the ancient town, I found that there were hundreds of homestays in the town. Usually, you can come directly to book and bargain! Just book a place to stay and you can get a plane pick-up! There is no need to buy tickets to stay in the ancient town. The tickets for the ancient town are actually mainly for a few fixed attractions. If you just want to stroll around, you don’t need tickets at all. My first impression when I just entered the ancient town was: it’s very bad, maybe the area around where we entered is still under construction.

The inns in the ancient town are basically for leisure, basking in the sun and drinking tea. Tea tables are basically equipped. If you like it, you can consider staying in the ancient town for one or two nights when you come to Tengchong.

After entering the ancient town, it is completely different from the first impression. It is indeed very historical.

The whole ancient town is quite large, so it is recommended to visit it in one day.

Even now, traces of time can be seen in many places in the ancient town! However, I personally think that because too many inns have been built, the original appearance of the monument has been affected to a certain extent.

There are many delicious foods in the ancient town. You can ask the inn owners directly, they know them very well.

By Flying Birds |

The ticket to the ancient town is 55 yuan, which is valid for one week. There are 6 scenic spots in the town that require ticket inspection, namely: Library, Li Family Ancestral Hall, Liu Family Ancestral Hall, Ai Siqi's Former Residence, Wanlouzi, and Heshun Alley. Ticket inspection for scenic spots is valid on the same day. Don't make a mistake. You must visit the scenic spots on the day you buy the ticket. Only the ticket to enter and exit the ancient town is valid for one week.

After half a day of walking, time was still tight, but I finally checked in at all the attractions that required ticket verification. In fact, there are far more things to visit in the ancient town, and every small inn is like a small attraction.

By Bearded |

Tourists need to buy tickets to enter the ancient town, which costs 80 yuan per person. You can visit all the attractions in the ancient town. Those brought in by the innkeeper can be exempted from the tickets. A few attractions cannot be entered. At first, they said that there would be ticket inspections at those attractions. When we went there, we didn't see anyone checking tickets. Friends who didn't buy tickets should pay attention.

Maybe due to its geographical location, Heshun Ancient Town does not have many visitors. Many scenic spots in the town still retain traces of history, and commercialization is not as serious as Dali and Lijiang.

By quarrel |

The ancient town is centered on the gate. Most of the places on the left side of the map are scenic spots, and tickets are required to enter. Among the shops and inns, there are scattered houses of local people. Perhaps it can be said that the commercial atmosphere is weakened by local folk customs. There are still many places in the ancient town that have not been developed. We accidentally found the road to the back mountain. Looking around, there are few people and no tourists, only rows of houses. The mossy path and the piles of firewood beside the house make it seem like I have returned to the simple countryside. The roads in the ancient town are very narrow. The main road can allow vehicles to pass, but a car is enough to block the road, and passers-by can only walk one-way on both sides. We did not walk fast, and we could walk through the ancient town in two or three hours.

By Thunder |

Heshun Ancient Town consists of three horizontal alleys and four vertical alleys, which intersect and connect with each other.

Don't trust the navigation here, it's not reliable at all.

Fortunately, the people here are simple and honest, and the villagers will be happy to help you find the way.

An ancient town, lying flat on a hillside, without any unique geographical advantages, must have had a profound heritage to have survived six or seven hundred years without being destroyed or ruined.

The courtyards of the old houses are mostly built with volcanic stones with tall and solid stone foundations. After hundreds of years, they are still tall and solid, with an ancient flavor and charm.

Wandering in the small streets of the ancient town, strolling tirelessly, intoxicated by the winding streets under the setting sun, the rugged and crisscrossed, and the well-connected Ming and Qing architectural complexes of the Heshun Ancient Town...

The old house with tall walls, carved beams and painted buildings, beautifully engraved gates, window lattices, smooth lines of screens, and exquisitely carved hollow wood carvings, reliefs, shallow carvings, and leaky carvings...

You will be shocked by the clusters of Ming and Qing Dynasty buildings and the residential buildings from the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China that are of different styles and meticulously crafted.

Beautiful scenery, pleasant climate, comfortable and leisurely pace of life, attract the eye and make people linger...

You can feel the mottled years and the rich traditional culture everywhere...

Those houses have been transformed into boutique homestays, quietly waiting for guests in the alleys.

Although these old houses have been ruthlessly carved by time, their ancient style and charm remain. If you feel them with your heart, it seems as if time has gone back.

Although it has lost its former luxury, it is now more wise, indifferent, reserved, profound, and charming. It has washed away all the vanity and the ethereal nothingness in the world...

The memory of the ancient town is like water, wind and rain. Time flies, and time is like water. Looking back at the passing years, the light and shadow of the past years are lingering.

By Drinking coffee while chewing pig's trotters |

We only walked around the outer perimeter of the ancient town. We did not go deep into many of the alleys in the ancient town, and only entered one of the many ancestral halls.

If you get up early, you can go to the century-old vegetable street in the core area of the ancient town. It is really the place where the residents buy their own vegetables. We went there twice later to buy fruits and mushrooms.

In fact, Heshun Ancient Town is quite large, and there are many places to walk around, so when you feel that a place is not interesting, it may be that you have not walked far enough.

Heshun Ancient Town was built during the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty. It was named "Heshun" because of the small river that passed through the village. Later, it was refined to "Heshun". It is known as the "hometown of overseas Chinese" and "a place of books". The ancient town has completely preserved the traditional residential buildings from the Ming and Qing Dynasties to the Republic of China. There are ancestral halls, archways, ancient houses and other cultural relics and historical sites. Among them, the former residence of Ai Siqi and Heshun Library are national key cultural relics protection units. As an important town on the Southern Silk Road, Heshun has formed a business tradition of "going to the barbarians" since the Qing Dynasty. There are more than 30,000 overseas Chinese living abroad, and it has nurtured celebrities such as philosopher Ai Siqi and educator Cun Shusheng. The typical buildings are characterized by "three squares and one screen wall" and "four courtyards and five patios". The bluestone slabs are crisscrossed. The main attractions include Shuanghong Bridge, Washing Pavilion, Yuanlong Pavilion, Yunnan-Myanmar Anti-Japanese War Museum, and Horse Gang Cultural Exhibition Hall.

We drove to Heshun Ancient Town to meet our old friend Brother Chen. The full ticket price is 55 yuan now. Even if you just want to eat in the restaurant in the ancient town, you still need to buy a ticket to enter, so I strongly do not recommend this attraction. According to feedback from friends who have visited Heshun Ancient Town in previous years, the current Heshun Ancient Town is already very commercialized and no longer as primitive and peaceful as it was a few years ago. Do you still plan to come to such a Heshun Ancient Town?

It's a must-visit place in Tengchong. Overall, the commercialization level is lower than that of Lijiang and Dali, but various inns are being built. It is said that it is crowded during the peak season. When we went there, it was during the epidemic, so there were not many people, and it was quite comfortable. The locals are also very simple, and the travel experience is still quite good.

My favorite are the streets in the early morning. Although the ancient town has inevitably become commercialized, these streets from bottom to top are still worth a visit, especially in the morning when the light is just right and it is very easy to take pictures. They are authentically simple and elegant, and bear the traces of time.

Heshun Ancient Town is a quiet ancient town that few people visit. Although "Northern Ireland" made it famous, it is still a secluded town due to inconvenient transportation. The stone road goes up the mountain and the green tile roofs are scattered. Only by choosing a courtyard homestay and staying for three days can you discover the beauty of this mountain town.

What should I do? I really like Heshun Ancient Town!

.

I came in at 9 o'clock in the morning. There was almost no one there. I strolled around the ancient town and saw beautiful scenery everywhere. The whole ancient town has many natural landscapes. Even the homestays were rebuilt according to the original buildings. There are ancient houses everywhere. At first glance, they are old objects rather than antique buildings. The natural landscape and the old houses are perfectly integrated without any disobedience, and the commercial street is not too abrupt. Succulent plants decorate the entire Heshun Ancient Town.

.

It is understood that there are more than 1,000 traditional dwellings here, including more than 100 from the Qing Dynasty, which are known as living fossils of ancient Chinese architecture; their architectural styles include "three courtyards and one screen wall", "quadrangle", "quadrangle and five patios", etc. There are many ancestral halls, among which the "Cun Clan Ancestral Hall" is really beautiful, and it is obvious that it is a wealthy family!

.

Because the ancient town is built on the mountain, you can see mountains and golden rice fields everywhere. It is so beautiful that I don’t want to leave.

.

Have a cup of coffee, eat some farm food, and start “wasting” time from me!

.

Ticket price: 27.5 yuan (original price 55 yuan, now half price), valid for three days.

There are seven gates in total to enter the ancient town.

Recommended play time: 1 full day (we played for two days)

I like it very much, highly recommend it, it’s my favorite!

Heshun Ancient Town is one of the most charming ancient towns in China. The beautiful environment makes people linger back and forth. The most attractive part of the entire ancient town is the section by the lake. There are also many historical sites here, but you need to check your ticket to enter, and other areas have been rented out or converted into pavilions for other purposes. At first, I didn’t know the beauty of the lakeside scenery. I just walked in the small village of the ancient town and quietly discovered the people and things here. There are no special projects, but it makes people feel simple and comfortable. There are also bus connections for tourist routes. You can book routes for tourist transfers. I took a tourist bus directly from the geothermal park to Heshun Ancient Town. The fare is 10 yuan and the journey takes about half an hour. If you take a taxi back to the city, the whole car price is 40 yuan.

By Words of Heart |

Heshun Ancient Town feels like a very disappointing scenic spot. Apart from the two ancestral halls, it feels no different from the current ancient town. I wonder if those who promote how good Heshun is have never been to a real ancient town, or if they went to Heshun and didn't see anything and are afraid of being laughed at by others. But I have to tell you responsibly that there is nothing worth seeing in Heshun Ancient Town. Several so-called scenic spots are not really scenic spots. There is absolutely no need to travel all the way here to see the ancient town, otherwise you will be the next one to regret it.

Tengchong's most beautiful hotel. Not far from the city, bus No. 6 goes directly there, tickets are 55 yuan when purchased online, valid for three days, which is very reasonable compared to the more than 100 yuan in Phoenix.

By cherry |

Ticket price: 55 yuan per person for adults, half price for children (unlimited entry and exit within 7 days)

Transportation: You can fly directly from Kunming to Tengchong, but there is no train. Self-driving (317 kilometers from Dali to Heshun Ancient Town, it takes about 5 hours to drive, and the highway fee is 175 yuan)

Heshun Ancient Town is the only one among the many ancient towns in Yunnan that we visited that requires entrance fees. I heard in the news that the ancient towns in Yunnan cancelled entrance fees under the coordination of the government, but this is because the Bailian Group contracted the tourism project of Heshun Ancient Town, and it is certain that they charge fees in order to make money, which makes the owners of the B&Bs in the ancient town miserable. Tourists have to pay entrance fees before staying in the B&Bs, which increases the cost of accommodation. In the past, people in the town could let tourists enter for free through the small roads, but now all the passages leading to the ancient town are guarded day and night. It is a pity for tourists to come here from thousands of miles away and not enter the ancient town, and they have to pay for it.

The ancient town is not far from Tengchong County. As early as the Ming Dynasty, the Han people from the Central Plains stationed troops here to guard the border. The town was built here. It is located on the border of China. The locals went to other countries to develop their own careers. After returning home, they returned to Heshun to build their own houses. Therefore, the buildings in Heshun have the Hui style of the Han people from the Central Plains, and the characteristics of foreign cultures. Coupled with the multiple integration of traditional local cultures, the Heshun Ancient Town we see now has been formed. Although the current Heshun Ancient Town has a strong commercial atmosphere, and the intricate stone roads are all lined with small shops or inns, it is not completely a packaged commercial empty city, because this is a living town, and the descendants of the ancient town still live here. The development of tourism has given them new opportunities, but it seems that the arrival of tourists has not affected their normal lives, and the locals have not forgotten to cultivate the fertile land left by their ancestors. However, as Heshun became famous, they gradually became wealthy. The only vehicles that can pass through the narrow ancient town roads unimpeded must be the residents here (foreign vehicles are prohibited from entering the ancient town).

Heshun Ancient Town is surrounded by volcanoes on all sides. The mountains are covered with lush ancient trees, the sound of waves is heard, and the winding river is like a white silk ribbon embedded between the vast rice waves and yellow flowers, quiet and dazzling...

In the past three years, Heshun Ancient Town has gained a lot of fame and attracted many tourists. It is known as the hometown of overseas Chinese! The town is quaint and has secluded alleys. The most famous is the library, which was built by a private person 80 years ago. It reflects the cultural quality of the Chinese nation, respecting teachers and education, and studying in the sun and rain!

Since we arrived in the afternoon and hadn't finished the tour yet, I took a few photos and sent them to you all first so you can see them for yourself!

At night, we stayed in the ancient town of Heshun, at a house owned by a family surnamed Ma.

To be honest, why do they charge admission? Is this to get closer to Fenghuang Ancient Town? This ancient town is really not worth the ticket price. The attractions are really good. There are fewer and fewer ancient buildings. There are only inns and shops. In the ancient town where everyone is engaged in business, I would rather live in the county town. Personal opinion, please don't criticize if you don't agree

A quiet ancient town with beautiful scenery, delicious food and cultural heritage, it is a good place to slow down and stay for a day or two, sit by the river, listen to folk songs and drink a cup of coffee.

By Cindy Yin |

I stayed in the ancient town for 2 days and watched the villagers farming and washing clothes. It was very primitive. The rape flowers bloomed in spring and were very beautiful.

By Playing around |

It’s a pretty good ancient town. I went there with a tour group five years ago, so I don’t remember many details.

Heshun Ancient Town is located 4 kilometers southwest of Tengchong County, Yunnan Province. Its ancient name was "Yangwendun". Because a small river passed by the village, it was renamed "Heshun". It is now called Heshun Town. The town has a population of more than 6,000 and is a famous hometown of overseas Chinese in Yunnan. There are still hundreds of traditional courtyards with a history of more than 100 years here.

One of the ancient towns worth visiting, with beautiful scenery. I stayed there for three nights and had a very detailed tour!

It is ancient and retains its original flavor. The residents are simple and hospitable.

Most of the time, it is as quiet as an old man. The water is relatively clear. The streets of the town are full of shops and inns. If you want to go, avoid holidays.

Heshun is located in Tengchong, Baoshan. It is an ancient town with a long history and was built in the Ming Dynasty. Most of the local Han people are descendants of Sichuanese, Jiangnan people, and Central Plains people who came to Yunnan in the early Ming Dynasty to engage in military and civilian settlements. These people were deeply influenced by Confucianism, so the village style, residential architecture, and folk crafts in Heshun are all permeated and preserved with the essence of Chinese culture. Judging from the architectural style of the residents, they are all deeply influenced by Confucianism. In addition, Heshun is also a famous hometown of overseas Chinese, with many beautiful buildings and some ancestral halls. You can go and see them. They are very famous.

It is the most distinctive ancient town I have ever seen, and I fell in love with this place instantly.

By China-TravelNote users |

I came here more than ten years ago. At that time, I felt that it was a quiet and bookish town. This time, I felt that the town was heavily commercialized and had lost its original cultural atmosphere. The planning was chaotic and the original Hui-style buildings had been overwhelmed by various inns. I will not come again next time.

By China-TravelNote users |

It's not fun and they charge 55 for the ticket. I personally think it's not worth going. I won't accept any rebuttal.

By Princess Iron Fan |

The ancient town is built around mountains, and it feels like a small Suzhou or Hangzhou. We went to the Heshun Library and tasted various flavors of time.

By September Eagle VIP |

The residents of the town are busy with their own things. In the autumn sunshine, we need to slow down our pace and stroll slowly in the ancient town. Along the way, we can see the life scenes of the ancient town. The ancient town here is not so commercialized.

By missdeng2012 |

The ancient town is not too commercialized. I had a bowl of pea noodles for 3 yuan, a bowl of rolled noodles for 3 yuan, and bought some fruits. It was quite cheap.

Heshun is not very big. I walked slowly from Sangong Palace to Wild Duck Lake. The scenery is nice.

By Bell |

I really didn't expect that when I went to Heshun Ancient Town it was actually winter, but Heshun Ancient Town was still as warm as spring. It was like spring all year round!

Heshun Ancient Town is suitable for leisure and vacation. The inn by Wild Duck Lake is very comfortable and the service is also very good.

The withered lotus leaves in the pond are a bit of a downer.

The river water is also much more turbid than before.

Heshun is different from Lijiang Old Town. It is built on the mountain and is well-proportioned. The shops are mostly engaged in jade and tea business, and many aboriginal residents are still there. When night falls, many alleys are almost deserted and very quiet, as if in another world.

By Jane |

What you cannot miss when you come to Heshun Ancient Town are the ancient buildings and houses here, with carved beams and painted rafters or black tiles and gray walls. Each house is like an exquisite work of art.

The charm of Heshun Ancient Town needs to be savored slowly and carefully! The hurried footsteps of the tour groups cannot measure its depth!

By Fun |

I like its tranquility 🛤 comfort 🏡 leisure 🧘🏻‍♀️ But you must choose to go during the off-season, the commercial atmosphere is not too strong, and it is very pleasant to wander in the alleys

By Shanghai Next Life |

The ancient town is very large and suitable for slow travel and daydreaming. It combines the life of an ancient town, tourism business and leisure and vacation slow life. It is different from other so-called ancient towns that are overdeveloped and full of commercial atmosphere, but it is not the kind of closed village that has not yet been discovered and developed and is in its original ecology. It is highly recommended!

By Winnie_yun |

I have long admired this ancient town. Most of the houses in the ancient town still maintain a relatively simple style, which is very much to my liking. There are not many tourists along the small roads, and this area is still relatively quiet.

By Little dear |

Heshun Ancient Town is worth a visit, more worthwhile than Ginkgo Village and Volcano Park! You can drive into this town from the back door without paying for tickets. I didn't know it for the first time, so the locals brought me 20 yuan and drove in without buying tickets. Compared with Lijiang Ancient Town, it is quiet here, with mountains and water. The ancient town is built on the mountain, with many homestays. If you have a car, you can walk here and choose a place to stay. It should be very comfortable to live here, and it is not noisy at night. There is another advantage of living here. It is very convenient to go to the lotus hot springs the next day. You don't need to take a detour, just walk from here.

I also want to say that compared to Lijiang Ancient Town, things in Heshun Ancient Town are cheaper!

By FrancesLok |

When I read the introduction, I felt that this was a place with a strong commercial atmosphere. Reality proved that my guess was correct. I can only comfort myself that if I can't take pictures of the scenery, then I'll continue to take pictures of the humanities.

Despite this, I still have to speak honestly: there are thousands of ancient towns in the world, and they are all pretty much the same.

By Galaxy |

The solar term has already begun winter, but Tengchong seems like golden autumn. During the five-day trip, I stayed in Heshun Ancient Town. The town was quiet and peaceful. The innkeeper and his wife were honest and simple. It felt warm and I liked it here!

The harmony, tranquility and simplicity of the early morning,

This should be the most original style of painting...

The sun rises,

The ancient town began to come alive.

Wander around the ancient village.

There are beautiful scenery everywhere.

The past is like flowing water,

The picturesque present day,

Slowly they all entered your heart...

Every time I gaze,

It seems that you can touch the mottled years and rich cultural atmosphere.

A pool of clear water flows around the village.

The ancient trees by the river are like smoke.

It brings to life a tranquil paradise.

Beautiful mountains and clear waters, weeping willows swaying against the table, green shadows dancing,

A picturesque scenery.

Living in the ancient town,

No need to buy tickets.

But if you want to visit and understand more deeply,

I think it's better to buy a ticket.

Enter Heshun through ancient buildings and local culture.

It was worth the trip.

There is a clear stream in front of the door.

There are century-old houses along the river.

Looking at the old history that is fading away,

Eat freshly caught and cooked fish and shrimp.

Sit on the rooftop garden and enjoy the beautiful scene of ancient buildings surrounded by green mountains.

Stealing a half day of leisure from busy life,

It's so comfortable...

The village is simple and quaint with a little bit of romance.

The mud house is simple.

The flowers and plants are fragrant.

There are also wealthy families in small villages.

Deep into the courtyard,

I really want to find out.

It is inconvenient to barge in rashly.

In the half-open door,

The leisurely and refined life is evident from this.

The ancient town of Heshun is shrouded in morning mist.

Like an otherworldly paradise.

Harmony,

It is really a place worth stopping and savoring.

Before coming to Heshun Ancient Town, I always thought it was just a commercial town made famous by the TV series "Northern Ireland". I didn't have high expectations, but I was really surprised after coming here. Perhaps only by actually living here and putting yourself in it, can you truly understand how the word "Heshun" is just right.

Heshun is like a video tape that has been fast-forwarded in time, with scenes jumping quickly before his eyes. Today's Heshun makes Xiaoyao unable to associate it with the land that was razed to the ground and not an inch of it was not burned.

By Benno Homestay |

Heshun Town is located 4 kilometers southwest of Tengchong County. Its ancient name was "Yangwendun". Because a small river passed by the village, it was renamed "Heshun". Later, it was refined to its current name, which means "harmony between scholars and people". The town has a population of more than 6,000, and there are more than 12,000 Heshun people living overseas. It is a famous hometown of overseas Chinese in Yunnan. It was once an important town for horse caravans and a must-pass place on the ancient "Southwest Silk Road". Various foreign cultures blended here, but apart from these halos, Heshun still maintains its simple style and has never changed.

Ancient Town Heshun

The Anti-Japanese War Memorial Hall is the best I have ever been to, and Heshun Ancient Town is also one of the top three among the dozens of ancient towns I have visited. Tengchong is a good place for children to go. There is a memorial hall for patriotic education, natural hot springs for bathing, hot air balloon rides to see the crater, and Beihai Wetland rafting. The most important thing is that you can eat in the ancient town where rape flowers are blooming. In three hours, I finished two cans of buffalo milk, two milk fan popsicles, a piece of grilled cheese, a plate of Dajiujia, and a braised wild duck rice. My stomach was not very happy.

Zhuge Liang captured Meng Huo seven times, Qiu Daoli went to Yunnan seven times, Tengchong ended, Heshun ended, and finally I went to all the places I wanted to go in Yunnan. Kunming, Dali, Xianglugu Lake, Luoping, Dongchuan, Fuxian Lake, Yuanyang, Banna, Puzhehei, Nujiang, Tengchong, Nudeng Village, if I have to say my favorite, it is still my blue Lugu Lake, which is the tranquility of the world, in short, it is a spermatorrhea. Like Xu Xiake, I chose Tengchong as the last stop, soaking in a hot spring to wash off the dust along the way, from the 26-degree hot sea back to the 4-degree Shanghai, the next stop is the 30-degree Xisha.

I went there during the National Day holiday and stayed in the ancient town for two days. You have to buy a ticket to enter the ancient town by the inn's car. The ticket is 55 yuan, which is said to be valid for many days. The ancient town is very beautiful, not so commercialized, and there are few people even during the National Day holiday. It is very suitable for a leisurely stay for a few days. The blue sky and white clouds, golden rice fields, and green mountains in the distance, my heart, which was occupied by work trivialities, was suddenly emptied. It's good to eat and watch the wasp nest. The top ones are all delicious. I have time to come and empty myself

By Misaki |

No one told me that Heshun Ancient Town is built on a mountain! Many roads are sloped, and it is very steep to go up and down the mountain. So I suggest that you try to live near the gate of the ancient town, which is at the foot of the mountain and not so steep. If you live on the mountain, it is very tiring to walk up and down, not to mention if the car can't drive in, you have to drag the suitcase up and down.

In addition, the measurement information of the ancient town on the Internet is inaccurate. Once the navigation showed that the walk was more than 800 meters, but the actual walk must have been more than 2 kilometers. And some roads are actually accessible, but the map shows that they are dead ends. So if you want to find a place, it is better to ask as many locals as possible.

By SQQ |

A very quiet town. It is more pleasant than Lijiang, Dali and Shuanglang.

By WOLVER Yuraiya |

The ancient town has nice scenery. This historical border port and important trading center has lost its former prosperity, and only the memorial archways and ancestral halls are left to future generations.

An ancient town worth visiting. In the remote frontier of our country, there is a place that still retains hundreds of years of relics, which is very spectacular and beautiful.

By once |

Visiting many ancient towns, the first ancient town I encountered charged admission 😂😂

By Fishing cat |

There are tour buses in the ancient town. The ancient town is not big, so if you don’t have children, you really don’t need to take one.

There are not many people in the ancient town, and the bar street seems deserted, with only a few people sitting under the trees leisurely drinking coffee.

The ancient town is built on the mountain, and many houses have a history of hundreds of years, and many celebrities have come from it. The whole ancient town is simple and yet spiritual.

The ancient town now charges admission, and the combined ticket of 80 yuan per person includes entry to the ancient town and all paid attractions. Those who stay in the ancient town inn do not need to buy tickets, but they cannot enter paid attractions such as Li Genyuan, Ai Siqi's former residence, the library Wenchang Palace, etc. If you buy tickets, you can only buy a combined ticket of 80 yuan.

The ancient town has a strong atmosphere of life. It is not as developed as Lijiang, and the locals are simple and kind.

By Blooming Summer Foam Suri |

There is a small border town in Yunnan that attracts people with its tenderness, simplicity and slight sense of fireworks.

Compared with Lijiang and Dali, there is more tranquility here. Walking in the rain alley, every inch is filled with a fresh and peaceful atmosphere.

The pace of life in Heshun Ancient Town is neither fast nor slow. When you walk across the stone arch bridge and enter the ancient town from the gate, you won't see crowded groups and no headache-inducing divine music. Even though the number of tourists visiting the ancient town has increased in recent years, it has not disrupted the lazy and comfortable rhythm that the natives have been accustomed to for a long time.
