Tengchong Volcanic Geothermal National Geopark

Yunnan Tengchong Volcanic Geothermal National Geopark is located in Tengchong County in western Yunnan. It is dominated by volcanic and geothermal resources with a large number of complete types and unique landscapes. It integrates geological landforms, ethnic culture and biodiversity characteristics. It is not only an important part of natural resources, but also a precious and non-renewable geological natural heritage.

Walking into the volcano park, you can see that all the mountains are volcanoes, and each volcano is a dormant active volcano. It is said that the last eruption was 7,000 years ago. The volcano geological park has two huge craters, Dakong Mountain and Xiaokong Mountain.

You must take a hot air balloon! The view and scenery are completely different after flying up! It is best to arrive around 9:30. If you arrive too early and you are one of the first two to fly, you will not be able to take pictures of other balloons; if you arrive too late, it may be cancelled! The end time of the flight is different every day. If the wind is strong, it may not fly at 11 o'clock. There is a lot of mist on the mountains in the distance, which is very beautiful. If it is too warm, you can't see it. The hot air balloon is very stable and very safe except that the space is too small. My mother has mild hypertension + motion sickness and is completely fine.



After flying down, I recommend Xiaokong Mountain. The volcanic crater of Xiaokong Mountain is large, the slope is not steep, and it is not tiring at all. There is also a plank road around the crater.



Many friends said before that the scenic area was not well constructed, but this time I went there I felt it was okay, and places like the rose garden and pomegranate garden were also under construction.

From a distance, we could see that the volcano had been cut off. We got up early to ride the hot air balloon, and since there was no wind, we decided to come.

We were the first group of tourists to ride a hot air balloon. Seeing more than ten young men busying themselves blowing up a hot air balloon, it felt like we were witnessing a miracle with our own eyes.

The morning mist was thick and the ground was covered with frost. I soared into the air and saw the sea of ​​clouds. It was really worth getting up early!

There is nothing to see when you climb the crater. You come here just to ride a hot air balloon. Although the ticket is a bit expensive and the ride only takes about 10 minutes, the view from the top is really amazing. The earlier you come, the better. In the morning, there is a layer of mist in the mountains in the distance, which is hazy and looming. It is so beautiful.

It's a dead volcano!

As soon as you enter the scenic area, you can see many people selling volcanic rocks, ornaments, flower pots, and potted picks. Many beautiful potted picks can be sent directly by express! I personally like it!

As for the entire scenic area, it is not very attractive to me. As soon as you enter the door, many local villagers will ask you if you want to ride a horse. Young friends are advised to climb by themselves. The mountain is really not high. It takes me about 20 minutes to climb up at a normal speed. Friends who want to experience horse riding negotiate the price. We just entered the scenic area and the horse riding price was 150 just to go up, and then they said round trip. Immediately someone said 100 round trips, and a big sister kept following me and said 80 round trips!

If you haven't ridden a hot air balloon before, you can try it.

There are two extinct volcanoes in the scenic area: Dakong Mountain and Xiaokong Mountain. Personally, I think it’s enough to climb just one of them. When you go up, you can only see a big pit.

This is the second largest hot spring field in China, consisting of Rehai Stone, Big Boiling Pot, Yugu, Pregnant Well, Pearl Spring, Beauty Pool, etc. The highest water temperature reaches 102 degrees, which is the best place for geothermal therapy in China. The Rehai Scenic Area is centered on Huangguaqing, Zaotang River and Sulfur Pond. There are many gas springs and hot springs, among which the most spectacular is the Big Boiling Pot. There are two hot spring hotels in the scenic area, including Rehai Yugu Hot Spring for 268 yuan and Rehai Beauty Pool Hot Spring for 238 yuan. I gave up the hot spring just because I forgot to bring my swimsuit.

Soon after entering the scenic area, we saw the steaming scene. It was like fog, which made the scenery very beautiful. Several scenic spots were in a line, and the last one was the big boiling pot. This was also the exit, and the tour was completed. It took two hours to walk around.

Warm reminder: 1. Please bring a sun hat, umbrella and sunscreen. Do not wear clothes that expose your shoulders, unless you apply sunscreen on the clothes that are exposed. It is best to wear a long-sleeved skin-protecting shirt. Otherwise, your shoulders and arms will become red, painful, and peeling. 2. Hot air balloons will stop operating after 11:30. As soon as you enter the scenic area, on the right is the Tengchong Volcano Geology Museum, which popularizes volcanic knowledge, so that you won't be speechless when sharing after the trip. From the entrance of the scenic area, a road leads to Dakong Mountain, but it is not unreasonable to run to the mountain and die. It takes about ten minutes to walk to the foot of the mountain. Of course, you can choose to ride a battery car or a horse. You can also ride up Dakong Mountain. Unlike other places, there are vast grasslands, lush forests, resting horses, and the sound of horse bells from time to time. With hot air balloons, it is a mix of beauty.

From the outside, it looks like a hill. Its geological significance is greater than its actual landscape. If you look down from the air on a hot air balloon, you can see the crater, which is a sunken grass pit.

The most desirable thing about the Volcano Geothermal Geological Park is to ride a hot air balloon and look down at the crater from a high altitude. There is a special bus (Volcano Line) at the tourist bus station. The fare is four yuan and the ride is about one hour. The time can be shorter, but the bus driver is too careful about safety and is slow and steady. If you live in a nearby hot spring hotel, there will generally be a ticket booking service that can help you book a hot air balloon ticket at the same time. Just go to the reservation place and wait for the hot air balloon to take off. You don’t have to spend time queuing up to buy hot air balloon tickets. During the National Day, it is said that queuing for two hours and taking off for two minutes. The ticket price for the hot air balloon is 280 yuan. It depends on the weather, wind, flow of people and other factors on the day to decide whether to take off. If the weather is good, an additional afternoon session will be opened. To buy tickets, you need to gather in a designated area and wait for the staff to call your number. The balloon ticket is actually a sign with a number. Those who are called follow the staff to the designated area to ride the balloon. At first, I thought the basket of the balloon could open the door to enter and exit, but it turned out not to be. You need to climb over to get up, and the same is true when you come down. Little girls may be more troublesome and hard. In addition, you can climb to the top of the volcano and overlook the crater. If you don’t want to climb, you can ride a horse.

Tengchong Volcano National Geopark is located in Tengchong and Lianghe counties in the southwest of Yunnan Province. The geological park features ancient volcanic geological relics and associated geothermal springs. The park is very unique and worth a visit.

The Tengchong volcanic group belongs to the Cenozoic dormant volcanoes and is one of the four major volcanic groups in mainland China. It covers an area of ​​221.36 square kilometers and has 97 volcanoes, of which volcanic craters are well preserved and there are 25 volcanic cones with high ornamental value. They can be divided into different shapes such as truncated cones, shields, domes, pyramids and composite shapes. It constitutes the area with the highest density of Cenozoic volcanoes and the largest number of volcanoes in my country.

We went to the Volcano Geological Park in late June. The weather was cool and there was no rain. After buying the ticket and entering (the ticket price was 35 per person), what came into view was a 2-kilometer trail with a viewing car and horses next to it, but there was an extra charge. There was horse manure along the way and no one cleaned it up. When we arrived at the foot of the mountain, my goodness, there were at least 1000+ steps with a gradient of 45 degrees in front of us, which made me dizzy. Here I tell you a little trick, that is, don't look up, adjust your breathing, just look at the steps in front of you, slow down and you will reach the top soon. I thought there would be beauty rewards when I reached the top of the mountain, but who knew it was a big pit. I originally wanted to take pictures of the scenery at the bottom of the volcanic pit, but there were no protective measures around and I couldn't take pictures to the bottom. If I made a mistake, I would be doomed. It is still recommended for geology enthusiasts or people who want to experience the fun of riding a hot air balloon (hot air balloons are open from 8 to 11 in the morning, 260 per person). There is no need for others to make a special trip. On the way back, there is a volcano museum to visit at the ticket gate, but 5 minutes is enough to see it. In summary, this attraction is a pit.

Among the 97 Cenozoic volcanic cones in Tengchong, the most famous are Dakong Mountain and Xiaokong Mountain, which are the main scenic spots of Tengchong Volcanic Geological Park. Dakong Mountain and Xiaokong Mountain are hundreds of meters apart, like a pair of twin sisters, born together. The crater left on the top of the mountain after the volcanic eruption is pot-shaped and very wide. Dakong Mountain is tall and straight, piercing the sky, with a volcanic cone 100 meters high, a crater diameter of 140 meters and a depth of 40 meters; Xiaokong Mountain is short and handsome, lush and green, with a relative height of 40 meters, a crater diameter of 150 meters and a depth of 47 meters.

We bought tickets to enter the scenic area, the ticket price was 35 yuan per person. Unfortunately, the hot air balloon was not open.

In the scorching sun at noon, I walked through the wide, unobstructed corridor. As soon as I entered the bottom of Xiaokong Mountain, I felt a cool breeze blowing through the lush vegetation on the mountain. There is no grandeur and shock like Wudalianchi here, but the air is fresh and pure. Climbing up more than 600 steps and looking into the distance, I feel refreshed and open-minded...

Tens of millions of years of accumulation, tens of millions of miles of searching, tens of millions of wonders, tens of millions and tens of thousands!

The volcanic hot springs originate from the self-flowing hot springs of the Quaternary volcanic lava, with world-class high-temperature spring landscape and world-class hot spring quality.

Alas, it's a very disappointing attraction. The attraction is divided into three parts, and the three attractions are very far apart. I wonder if the scenic spot has a shuttle bus now?

Be sure to go early, there will be no hot air balloons in the afternoon...

You can visit the two volcanoes, Dahei Mountain and Xiaohei Mountain, and take a hot air balloon ride up and down. There is also a volcano museum.

Very beautiful place, warm, comfortable, clear

When you enter the park gate, you don’t need to look at the road signs, just walk directly in the direction of the hot air balloon, because the purpose of riding a hot air balloon is to overlook the Big and Small Kongshan craters from the air.

There are two craters, and there is no scenery to speak of other than that. The driver told me that if I wanted to see the crater, I could climb Xiaokong Mountain. I went to take a hot air balloon specifically, and the time was relatively short. Although the experience was good, the time was too short and I got off before I could enjoy it. It would be a pity not to go, but it would also be a pity for my wallet if I went.

This scenic spot is the kind that you will regret if you don't come, and it will be even more regrettable if you come. It is the most disappointing scenic spot I have ever been to... The ticket is more than 50 yuan, and the walk from the entrance of the scenic spot to the stairs of Dakong Mountain is several hundred meters... and the stairs to Dakong Mountain are very long, which makes people feel exhausted. Knowing this, I would rather stay in Ginkgo Village for a day. It is really a bit strenuous to climb the stairs to Dakong Mountain on the plateau. The round piece in the middle is the point where the hot air balloon takes off. It is said that you have to arrive before 10 o'clock in the morning to take a hot air balloon. I feel that with such a scenery, it is not worth spending so much money to take a hot air balloon. I will save it for Türkiye... I finished it in less than an hour,

In fact, there is really nothing to see in this scenic spot. The two volcanoes, Dakong Mountain and Xiaokong Mountain, are actually two large earth pits. However, this ticket is a combined ticket with the Heiyu River scenic spot, 35 yuan per person.

I want to remind everyone that the hot air balloon in the volcano park is only available in the morning!!! We went there in the afternoon and didn’t see anything. We found out later after asking around.

The volcano looks very majestic from the outside, but after reaching the top, I found that it is just a pit. It is still under construction, with various botanical gardens, flowers, etc. There is nothing to see in this place, and I think it is very ordinary. I was particularly disappointed because there was no hot air balloon in the afternoon. There is nothing on the top of Dakong Mountain, not as good as the scenery at the foot of the mountain, but Xiaokong Mountain is more beautiful.

If you come to Tengchong and don't ride a hot air balloon to see the volcano, it feels incomplete. The ticket we bought on Alizhu is 263 per person. You don't need to go to the ticket office. You can directly verify it with the staff at the place where you take the hot air balloon. It costs 280 per person to buy a ticket on site. The ride time is about 10 minutes. It is recommended to arrive and ride when the park opens. If you are late, there will be a lot of people and you need to queue. The ticket for the volcano park is 35 per person, which can also be bought on Alizhu. It costs 40 yuan per person on site.

It is recommended to take a hot air balloon to see the crater directly. There is no need to climb Dakong Mountain, because you can't see any scenery at all when standing next to the crater.

It was worth it that I set off at 7 o'clock in the morning and was frozen like a dog. The process of the hot air balloon rising and descending was not scary. The most frightening thing was the shaking when the wind blew in the air. Unlike the girl in the same basketball team who kept muttering "Master, are we safe?", I was calm and only said one sentence from beginning to end, "Master, please don't burn my hair, okay?"

I read many comments from classmates, saying that they spent money and climbed many steps, but in the end they just saw a pit. Indeed, for the same pit, different perspectives determine the beauty of the pit, and it is your sense that creates the perspective.

We chartered a car for a day to go to the volcano and hot sea. The volcano ticket is 35, which includes three scenic spots, Big and Small Kongshan, Columnar Joints, and Blackfish River. There are only Big and Small Kongshan in the geological park. There are two volcanoes, one high and one low. The scenery is beautiful. There are not many people on National Day. I came for the hot air balloon. It was almost ten o'clock when I arrived. The horse riders at the door said that the hot air balloon tickets were no longer available. If I took their horses, they could help me buy tickets. I had to take the horse in order to take the hot air balloon. I don't know if I was cheated. The scenery on the hot air balloon is really beautiful, and it is also shocking to overlook the crater. It is worth being cheated to ride a horse. There is no need to take the battery car, which only goes to the foot of the mountain. There is a viewing platform on the way to the Blackfish River to see the columnar joints. The Blackfish River is a dark river. The whole scenic area is not big. It takes an hour to go back and forth. I didn't walk again at the source and didn't go to the columnar joints. Those who are not interested in volcanoes and hot air balloons may be disappointed. You must go early to take a hot air balloon.

You can take a hot air balloon in the scenic area from 10 am to 12 pm, provided that the weather is good and there is no strong wind or heavy rain, otherwise it will not be able to fly. The hot air balloon ride is very short and will come down in less than 10 minutes. You must take the time to take pictures. However, the basket is relatively small, and the basket will shake in the air, so it is still difficult to take portraits.

It is a natural landscape that is worth seeing. It is shocking, rare and spectacular. It is the largest volcanic hot spring geothermal landscape in my country. It is worth experiencing!

The scenic area is well built, very clean and tidy, and the service staff are also very good. However, some tourists are not well-educated. They are really angry when they see the beverage bottles in the hot spring water.

Just outside the scenic area is Yugu Hot Spring, which is included in the package.

The first way is hiking: it takes 30 minutes to hike up Dakong Mountain. You can see a pit when you climb up. It takes 10 minutes to hike up Xiaokong Mountain. Halfway through the hike of Dakong Mountain, there is a fork road leading to Xiaokong Mountain. There are hiking wooden plank roads around. The second way is to take a hot air balloon (280 yuan/10 minutes) to see Dakong Mountain, Xiaokong Mountain, and Heikong Mountain. The hot air balloon ends at about 10:30, so you need to go early in the morning. The third way is riding a horse, which is very exciting, 100 yuan/person. The fourth way is to ride a powered trike, which is very exciting. The special geological structure has formed a strange volcanic landform of "nine out of ten mountains have no heads". The volcanic cones, volcanic caves, lava rock landforms, volcanic lakes, barrier waterfalls, and columnar joints are large in scale, concentrated in distribution, diverse in type, and well preserved. Their scale and integrity are the first in the country.

We went to the geological park in the morning to ride a hot air balloon, but we still failed. Tourists who want to ride a hot air balloon must get up early. We had no choice but to ride horses up the mountain.

Dakong Mountain is suitable for hot air balloon viewing, while Xiaokong Mountain is suitable for climbing.

In the Volcano Geological Park, you can take a hot air balloon ride every morning to view the volcano group, but this activity will be cancelled if it rains or is windy.

The park is mainly for climbing the volcanoes of Dakong Mountain and Xiaokong Mountain, and the other park scenery is basically under construction. In fact, the scenery of Dakong Mountain and Xiaokong Mountain is similar. The steps of Dakong Mountain are about 590, and those of Xiaokong Mountain are about 60. Tourists on Dakong Mountain have walked out of the road around the top of the volcano, while the top of Xiaokong Mountain is a road built by the scenic area. It took about an hour and a half to climb the two mountains in the rain. Similarly, there were very few tourists on the road, and I felt the power of the cancellation of flights at Tuofeng Airport in the rainy season. The bougainvillea in the park is lush and beautiful.

Entering the park, the parking lot is next to a commercial street. You need to cross the commercial street to reach the gate of the scenic area. Many scenic spots are designed in this way. I really want to buy some to take home, but it is inconvenient to carry them, so I had to give up. The hot air balloon ticket booked online does not include the entrance ticket, so I went to the site to buy the entrance ticket.

The volcanoes in the macroscopic view are indeed fantastic and mysterious, but the world under the microscopic view is no less fascinating. At this moment, the cold air has not faded and the white frost is still there, which makes the mystery of the underground world even more obvious.

At the bottom of the volcano, even in winter, all kinds of plants are extremely lush, there is no empty space at all, and the colors are ever-changing, as if you are in the underwater world.

The main attractions here are Dakong Mountain and Xiaokong Mountain, which are extinct volcanoes dating back more than 300,000 years. Dakong Mountain has many steps, and it feels tiring to climb up at least 800 steps if not 1,000. There is a caravan at the foot of Xiaokong Mountain, and you can ride horses up, but we didn't ride horses, and each person may be about 60 or 70 steps.

I really don't like this place. It's just a small hill. I climbed up and saw a pit.

Volcano Address Park, a 5A scenic spot, has Dakong Mountain and Xiaokong Mountain. You can also take a high-altitude hot air balloon, but you need to arrive at the scenic spot around 9 am, otherwise the wind will be too strong and the flight will be suspended for safety reasons.

Rehai Scenic Area is a popular scenic spot in Tengchong. From afar, hot air gushed out from the ground dozens of meters high. A waterfall flows down the river. Close to the waterfall, several nozzles keep spewing hot air. Over the years, a layer of white minerals has fallen on the nozzles. Going down the river, there are hot air gushing everywhere, hot water flowing everywhere, and traces of hot water painting are left on the rock wall.

Volcano Geological Park Ticket: 54 yuan, you can take a hot air balloon ride in the morning, 200 yuan for 10 minutes.

Tengchong Volcano National Park, the main attractions are Dakong Mountain, Xiaokong Mountain and the Volcano Geology Museum, as well as the Black Fish River and columnar joints, but it is 12km away from Dakong Mountain and you need to take a separate car to get there. It is a 5A scenic spot, but it is still under construction, and the supporting facilities inside are really not like a 5A scenic spot.

We went to Dakong Mountain and Xiaokong Mountain, but we didn’t take the hot air balloon ride because Xiaokong Mountain was easier to walk on.

There are three parts to visit: Xiaokong Mountain, Zhuzi Joints and Heiyu River Scenic Area. The package ticket for the three attractions is not expensive, 54 yuan. There is a 10 yuan battery car fee in Xiaokong Mountain Scenic Area, but the scenic area itself is not big. You can reach the foot of the mountain in 20 minutes on foot, so there is no need to take it. In addition, you can take a hot air balloon and a hang glider in Xiaokong Mountain Scenic Area, and the price is more than 200 yuan.

Tip: The main attractions of the volcanic scenic area are the Big and Small Kongshan Mountains. The columnar joints and the Blackfish River included in the package are on the same tour line, but it takes half an hour to drive from the Big and Small Kongshan Mountains. There is no public transportation to the Blackfish River Scenic Area, so you must take a taxi or charter a car, and the price is about 50 to 100. Therefore, if you want to visit all three attractions in the volcanic scenic area, it is necessary to charter a car in advance. To enter the scenic area, you need to go through a shopping corridor, where many local women warmly greet tourists to buy volcanic stone accessories, coarse grain cakes, hand-woven mosquito repellent grass objects, etc. The prices are not expensive. A volcanic stone with mosquito repellent grass is only 5 yuan. However, after entering, I found that you can pick up scattered small volcanic stones in the Big and Small Kongshan Mountains. Many children came out with a pile of volcanic stones. When you walk to the entrance of the scenic area, you can see colorful hot air balloons flying freely in front of the Big Kongshan Mountain.

The biggest mistake of this trip was choosing the Volcano Park. There are two craters in the park that can be climbed, Dakong Mountain and Xiaokong Mountain, which is a real test of human nature. Because most people will choose the "big one". As a result, after climbing up 590 steps, I could only look at a huge earth pit with weak legs. Xiaokong Mountain is better built, at least there is an observation deck, you can see what the crater looks like (it is actually also a big earth pit).

The correct way to go to the volcano park is to come in the morning, buy a 43 yuan ticket first, then buy a 200 yuan hot air balloon for a ten-minute flight, and then you can go back.

A rare hot air balloon experience! It's so beautiful to see the scenery in the sky! Although hot air balloons are expensive, they are worth it. However, I would like to remind you that it is best to buy them online in advance. If you buy them on site, you will have to rely on your luck because there are too many people. It is recommended to ask the inn owner to buy them for you, and there will be discounts. In addition, hot air balloons are greatly affected by the weather. If the wind is too strong, they cannot fly. Therefore, check the weather forecast before going, so as not to go in vain.
