Xiaokong Mountain is located in Mazhan Township, over ten kilometers west of Tengchong County, to the right of Dakong Mountain. Tengchong's location at the convergence point of the Indian and Eurasian Plates creates a well-developed underground fault system and intense magma activity. While Xiaokong Mountain stands only about fifty meters tall, its crater is surprisingly large, exceeding 150 meters in diameter. The perfectly rounded cone, seemingly empty and hollow, holds the boundless mysteries of nature.

I agreed with my friends to take photos from different angles and then share resources after coming down. The space on the balloon is small, so I had to be very careful when raising my hands, for fear of bumping into other hands or dropping my phone or camera. It was very difficult to move at the highest point. My backpack and other things were placed under the balloon, and I would kick the items when I moved, making it difficult to walk. It started to slowly descend within two minutes. I didn't feel anything while descending. I only noticed the descent when I was looking at the distant objects that were higher than me. The whole process took about eight minutes, and my first ascent ended like this.
Xiaokong Mountain is the largest volcano in Tengchong Volcanic Geothermal Park.
The local famous attractions are quite unique and recommended to visit.
The height is not high, so it is not tiring to climb. There is a wooden plank road around the crater, but there is nothing to see, so just take a walk.
Climb up the mountain to see the big pit, haha, it actually has quite some geological characteristics
We climbed up Xiaokong Mountain to experience the magnificence of the crater up close. When we got to the top of the mountain, the crater was quite large, at least my camera couldn't capture it.
Xiaokong Mountain is less tiring, and you can see the bottom of the crater. You can't see it on Dakong Mountain, which is deeper. So friends with average physical strength can consider climbing Xiaokong Mountain.
Xiaokong Mountain has only 60 steps, and anyone can easily climb up. There is a plank road around the crater, which you can walk along and take beautiful portraits.
Climbing to the summit of Xiaokong Mountain is easy. A beautiful wooden plank path has been constructed around the summit of the Xiaokong Mountain crater, approximately 200 meters in diameter. Visitors can stroll leisurely along the path, enjoying the breeze and the scenery. They can also gaze down to the crater's bottom, approximately 60 meters in diameter, where someone has carved a "1314" pattern out of volcanic rocks. We also tried to find a way down to the base, but the path, while seemingly easy, was incredibly steep. Not long into the journey, I lost my footing while dodging thorns and nearly fell into the thousand-meter-deep ravine. Life is a game for the brave.
Located in Tengchong Volcanic Geothermal Park, opposite Dakong Mountain, Xiaokong Mountain is shorter and closer to the entrance. The crater is shaped like a perfect pot bottom and is very beautiful.
Xiaokong Mountain formed around the same time as Dakong Mountain, both controlled by north-south hidden faults. The volcanic lava didn't release much during the eruption, preventing it from accumulating into a taller cone. A wooden plank path circles the mountain, about 1,000 meters high. The mountain is relatively low, shaded by dense trees, making it a perfect spot for strolling and taking photos.
Next to Dakong Mountain, the two sides are for wealth and fortune. It is smaller than Dakong Mountain. It is said that if you wear thicker shoes and walk on the edge of the pit, there will be an echo! The name of Dakong Mountain and Xiaokong Mountain also comes from this. In fact, it is two craters.
A wooden plank road has been built around the Xiaokongshan crater, where you can walk around the crater or go down to the crater along the path trampled by tourists.
Xiaokong Mountain has fewer steps than Dakong Mountain, and there are plank roads around it, which makes the experience much better. You can also see Dakong Mountain behind it.
We walked here and took a walk around. It is shorter than Dakong Mountain and we saw the hot air balloons rising over there.
The staff next to us told us that it would only take 5 minutes to reach the top of the mountain. One of my friends was still reluctant to move, but my other friend and I decided to continue. As a result, we reached the top of the mountain in less than 5 minutes, and the road was very flat. Compared with the fatigue of climbing Dakong Mountain, it was so easy.
Moreover, perhaps because people tend to think like us, climbing the big and ignoring the small, Xiaokong Mountain is practically empty of tourists compared to the throngs of people on Dakong Mountain. The Xiaokong Mountain crater is fenced off, preventing descent, which in turn prevents trampling. The crater appears far more elegant than Dakong Mountain. The hiking trail along the crater is also much better built than Dakong Mountain's dirt path. Surrounded by pine forests, bathed in the midday sun, the scent of pine fills the air, leaving one feeling utterly relaxed. Then, a mountain breeze sweeps in from Gaoligong Mountain, sending the pine forest rustling with a cacophony of sounds. The overwhelming sound doesn't evoke a sense of panic or unease, but rather a sense of wonder and wonder at the vastness of the world and the beauty of nature.
To be honest, Dakong Mountain is like the bustling world, large and chaotic; Xiaokong Mountain is like an ethereal and ethereal place, all quiet and beautiful. So I feel sorry for those who worked hard on Dakong Mountain and then resolutely gave up on Xiaokong Mountain.
I was born and raised in Tengchong, and I'm quite familiar with the tourist routes, attractions, and folk customs of Tengchong, Mangshi, and Ruili. Tengchong is a health resort paradise with blue skies and white clouds every day, where volcanoes and hot springs coexist. Tengchong, the first city on the extreme border, Mangshi, is a prefecture-level city inhabited by the Jingpo and Dai ethnic groups. Going there is mainly to experience the ethnic customs and unique ethnic characteristics. Ruili is famous for its border characteristics. There is an old saying that describes Ruili like this: when you arrive in Ruili, it's like having one foot in China and one foot in Myanmar! If you want to visit Tengchong, Mangshi, and Ruili, please contact me! We mainly have sedans and commercial vehicles.
You can learn more about the formation of the mountain by listening to the explanation in the museum at the entrance. The climb is simple, but there is not much to see. There is even less to see in Dakong Mountain.
Xiaokong Mountain lies to the right of Dakong Mountain. Tengchong's location at the sharp convergence of the Indian and Eurasian Plates creates a well-developed underground fault system and intense magma activity. While Xiaokong Mountain stands only about 50 meters tall, its crater is surprisingly large, exceeding 150 meters in diameter. The perfectly rounded cone, seemingly empty, holds the boundless mysteries of nature.
The perfumed pineapples and black plums sold in front of the scenic area are delicious. The scenery is average.
There are two volcanoes in the volcanic geological park, Xiaokong Mountain and Dakong Mountain. We climbed Xiaokong Mountain and when we reached the top, we saw a big grass pit.
Dakong Mountain is actually very fun. The three sets of long ladders scare many people away, but it is not too difficult to climb up. Compared with the plank road of Xiaokong Mountain, Dakong Mountain maintains its original appearance. Dense pine forests grow along the crater, and a dirt road winds around the mountain pass. Many people follow the trails to explore the valley bottom. All the original ecology completely inspires people to explore the mysteries of the sky.
Xiaokong Mountain is easy to climb. There is a wooden plank road around the crater. You can walk along the crater. The crater is not blocked by many trees and can be seen clearly. If you have not seen the crater, you can take a look.
In the volcanic scenic area, it is adjacent to Dakong Mountain. Xiaokong Mountain is not high, and it takes 1 hour to climb up and walk around.
After going up Dakong Mountain, I no longer have the heart to go up Xiaokong Mountain. It is a boring place.
The scenery is beautiful and it is definitely worth experiencing as soon as possible!
The geological park has no scenery, but it is a learning experience.
Climbing to the bottom of a volcano can be so hot you die. Legend has it that shouting at the crater can change the weather.
The Xiaokong Mountain attraction, fully named "Tengchong Volcanic Geothermal National Geopark," is located approximately 20 kilometers north of the city. Upon entering the park, one notices a tall derrick nearby—perhaps they're searching for geothermal resources? If it weren't for the sign proclaiming "Xiaokong Mountain," one might not think this mound is anything special. But it's actually a mud volcano, covered in vegetation. While Xiaokong Mountain is only 40 meters high, the crater is 150 meters deep and 47 meters deep, though walking on it doesn't quite impress.
After entering the park, we took a sightseeing electric car to the foot of Xiaokong Mountain, then climbed the stairs, and finally arrived at the top of Xiaokong Mountain. We saw the blue sky, white clouds, and green grass. The air here is so good, much better than the air in Beijing!
A very short volcano, suitable for people who are not physically fit but want to see the volcano~~
Xiaokong Mountain is a must-see in the scenic area. First, it's not too high, so hiking isn't too tiring for most people. Second, its crater (volcanic cone) is clearly visible and bare of vegetation, making it easy to see. However, those with good stamina, especially those with advanced hiking skills, are recommended to try both Dakong Mountain and Xiaokong Mountain.
The volcano ticket is 40 yuan, and it is far from Heshun. The chartered car costs 200 yuan a day, and they take you to several scenic spots along the way, so you don’t have to worry about it. It’s great.
There are two optional activities at the volcano: hot air ballooning and hang gliding. We chose the hot air balloon, and it was the best experience of our trip, bar none. The view from the balloon overlooking the two craters of the Big and Small Sky Mountain, the sea of clouds in the distance, the grassland, the sea of clouds, and the halo of the volcano were truly breathtaking.
Tip: Hot air balloons are only available in the mornings, and during peak season, you'll have to wait in line for an hour or two, so be sure to go early. Also, they're closed during strong winds, rain, or fog, so you'll need to adjust your itinerary based on the weather.
Dakong Mountain and Xiaokong Mountain are two craters, so we naturally chose to climb the bigger one, which is really high... It looked okay from the hot air balloon, but after coming down from Dakong Mountain, we really couldn't climb Xiaokong Mountain, so we just looked at it from afar. But later we heard that the scenery of Xiaokong Mountain was more beautiful, so if you have limited physical strength, you can just climb Xiaokong Mountain.
Xiaokong Mountain is located in Tengchong Volcanic Geothermal National Geopark, Tengchong County, Baoshan City, Yunnan Province. Xiaokong Mountain is not high, but to the right of Dakong Mountain. The crater is particularly obvious, and the vegetation in the crater of Dakong Mountain is very lush.
In the geological park, there is a volcanic crater with good scenery.
After climbing to the top of the mountain, you can walk around the top to feel that the top of the mountain is round, but you really can't feel it's special within the range of line of sight. However, you can take a hot air balloon in the scenic area. It will be more interesting to rise to the sky and see the tops of Dakong Mountain and Xiaokong Mountain.
The ticket price for Tengchong Volcano Park is only 40 yuan, which is relatively reasonable.
In Tengchong Volcano Park, the mountains are not high, which is a good place to understand the structure of volcanoes.
Big and Small Kongshan are dormant volcanoes in Tengchong. Transportation is not very convenient, but it took a long time to find the road by car. While the construction is not very good, it is very well preserved and not very crowded. Unfortunately, you can't go down to the Kongshan Valley to experience the feeling of standing on the top of the volcano, so you can only circle the crater to see it.
The geological park is lush with trees and people are playing with hot air balloons.
Xiaokong Mountain is located in Mazhan Township, more than ten kilometers west of Tengchong County, to the right of Dakong Mountain. It was formed because Tengchong is located at the junction of the Indian and Eurasian plates, where underground faults are well developed and magma activity is very intense.
Let's take a look at what the crater looks like. Tengchong has many volcanoes and hot springs, and this crater is still an active volcano. It's worth a visit.
It's a very small point, not very high, and it only takes half an hour to reach the top, along a circle of plank roads.
Because I was with my elderly parents, I didn't go to Dakong Mountain. I only visited Xiaokong Mountain. The place is very large and the air quality is good. I recommend everyone to go and see it.
The route to Xiaokong Mountain consists of 68 steps, a relatively short hike that quickly reaches the summit. The mountain is lushly forested, with a truncated cone-shaped summit just over 50 meters high, yet the crater is surprisingly large, over 150 meters in diameter and 70 meters deep. The perfectly round cone, seemingly empty, is filled with the mysteries of nature. The large crater left behind by the eruption offers a glimpse into what it must have been like. A wooden plank road circumnavigates Xiaokong Mountain for a complete overview of the surrounding landscape.
After climbing up Xiaokong Mountain, you can see the inside of the volcano.
Xiaokong Mountain and Dakong Mountain are on the right. They are not as high as Dakong Mountain, but I think they are more interesting than Dakong Mountain.
My friend who went with me said, "It's just a desert!"
Xiaokong Mountain, located within Tengchong Volcano National Park, isn't very high, taking about 20 minutes to reach. However, the crater is surprisingly large, over 150 meters in diameter. Many people who reach the crater also walk around the mouth. Looking down from above, you can see a heart-shaped structure in the center. Is it man-made or...? Xiaokong Mountain is the main scenic spot in Tengchong Volcano Geological Park and is well worth a visit in Tengchong!
Inside the volcano park. Both Dakong Mountain and Xiaokong Mountain are climbed to see the pit. If you are not in good health, it is recommended to climb Xiaokong Mountain.
In fact, there is really nothing to see in the Volcano Park, just a bare pit. There are many wooden products from Myanmar in the wood trading market outside the park, which are very beautiful.
Xiaokong Mountain is located within the Volcano Park. I'd read other travel guides about it describing it as a massive crater, but descending from the summit to the heart of the 47-meter-deep crater is a thrilling experience, a thrilling experience. This was my first time seeing the crater up close, with ash, pumice, and volcanic bombs everywhere. The Volcano Park boasts 97 dormant volcanoes, 23 of which are intact and 22 are remnants. They form a string of three volcanoes: Dakong Mountain, Xiaokong Mountain, and Heikong Mountain. Climbing Xiaokong Mountain is recommended, as the climb is time-consuming and the dense vegetation prevents a clear view of the crater. Xiaokong Mountain, on the other hand, offers a panoramic view of the crater. Eco-tour buses are available, but I wouldn't recommend them, as the distance is very short and walking up is a breeze.
We climbed Xiaokong Mountain, and it took us nearly an hour to walk back and forth. To be honest, there was nothing to see at the top. The extinct volcano looked like a grassy dirt slope. Ha, what a tragedy.
I climbed a small, empty mountain. It barely looked like a volcano, completely covered in vegetation like a harmless hot pot. After climbing up, I even circled the mountain for exercise.
Volcanoes don't have tops, and instead have a large pit on top, which is the volcano's eruption crater. The closer you get to the center of the pit, the less likely trees are to grow, so the center is often empty, a fact that's especially evident on Xiaokong Mountain.
The volcanic feature is worth coming to play, the sky is particularly blue, and the air is particularly good!
Xiaokong Mountain was formed after thousands of years of cooling after a volcanic eruption. If you have never been there, you can go and see it, but I don’t think there is anything special about the scenery.
The shape is like the Chinese character "kou", and it is easy to climb up.
You can walk around the crater, which is quite impressive. The stairs at Dakong Mountain are particularly scary, and the crater is blocked by trees. Just like the ticket seller said: "Xiaokong Mountain is for viewing, and Dakong Mountain is for exercise."
The Xiaokongshan crater is the crater of an extinct volcano. The crater is quite large and cannot be photographed without a panoramic scan. Climbing the stairs to Dakongshan is a big challenge. After climbing up, the crater is blocked by trees, so it is better to go to Xiaokongshan for the view.
There are also hot air balloons in the scenic area. I wonder what the scenery looks like from above.
The inside of the volcano is empty. If there is no administrator on Xiaokong Mountain, you must jump on the volcano countless times. The mountain is empty, there is an echo, and you can feel shock waves under your feet.
The most ideal volcanic wonder to climb in Tengchong is Xiaokong Mountain in Volcanoes National Park. The mountain, lushly forested and truncated into a cone, descends to the 47-meter-deep crater, where scoria, pumice, and volcanic bombs are visible. We also took a small path down to the base of the cone, where the grass, bleached pale and yellow by sulfur, creates a beautiful photo op.
After climbing up, we discovered that Xiaokong Mountain is really low. It only takes a few steps to reach it, and when we get there, we see only a pit. You can walk around the pit along the plank road. We felt that after spending 40 yuan to see a pit, it was really a pit.
Because we were afraid that we didn’t have enough time, we only climbed Xiaokong Mountain. This is the scenery on Xiaokong Mountain. The volcano was covered with trees and grass everywhere. That’s what the top looked like.
We didn't climb the most famous Dakong Mountain, but the smaller Xiaokong Mountain nearby, to save time. Never mind, it's just not as "bulky," so it's about the same. That's all we can say. When we reached the highest point, we saw the mountain had sunken down in the middle, like a giant pot.
What is the Big Sky Mountain and the Small Sky Mountain? It is actually a pit, and the pit is full of grass. Since I went there, I ran along the pit. Since the altitude here is about 2000, some people were already out of breath when they climbed up.
Dakong Mountain has nearly 600 steps and is quite steep. Xiaokong Mountain has more than 60 steps and is easier to climb. The crater is also larger than that of Dakong Mountain. You can also walk on the wooden plank road and watch the sunrise.
The pass of an extinct volcano is said to bring good luck if you walk around it. The scenery was average and did not leave a deep impression.
If there are elderly people, it is recommended to go to Xiaokongshan instead of Dakongshan Scenic Spot, because there are only more than 100 stairs, and Xiaokongshan is relatively well-built.
Xiaokong Mountain is located in Mazhan Township, over ten kilometers west of Tengchong County, to the right of Dakong Mountain. Tengchong's location at the convergence point of the Indian and Eurasian Plates creates a well-developed underground fault system and intense magma activity. While Xiaokong Mountain stands only about fifty meters tall, its crater is surprisingly large, exceeding one hundred and fifty meters in diameter. The perfectly rounded cone, seemingly empty, holds the mysteries of nature. Here, you can witness one of Yunnan's "Eighteen Weird Things": "Ninety Percent of the Mountains Have No Heads." This includes Xiaokong Mountain, whose summit is a volcanic crater, giving the appearance of nine out of ten mountains being headless.
The edge of the crater where the Xiaokongshan volcano erupted is relatively clear. Walking along the crater can help you calm your mind and cleanse your lungs.
The 40 yuan ticket is a bit expensive. I didn't dare to climb Dakong Mountain because it was too high. Xiaokong Mountain was okay and I could see the bottom. The scenery on the way was also good. The colorful hot air balloons under the blue sky were really nice.
Xiaokong Mountain, a small volcano in the volcano park, you can climb up to see the crater, walk around it, and then go down to the bottom of the crater.
The unique geographical features are rare and certainly worth seeing.
If you've never seen a volcano, you can go up there. It's not very high and is easy to get to. If you really want to see the volcano, it's best to take a hot air balloon ride, which is quite expensive.
From Dakong Mountain, you can walk through the hot air balloon landing area to Xiaokong Mountain. As we crossed, we saw no other tourists. Compared to Dakong Mountain, Xiaokong Mountain is much lower, and the stairs are wide and flat, making the hike less tiring. At Xiaokong Mountain, you can see a complete crater, and for some reason, there's a small pile of rocks at the bottom.
Xiaokong Mountain has a short plank road, but it's lined with small, shady pavilions. Xiaokong Mountain is small, so it's sparsely populated. We walked around and only saw four or five groups of tourists, either enjoying the cool air in the pavilions or snapping photos before leaving. So, this is definitely a great place for photography. Or rather, midday is the best time to take photos in the volcano park. You don't have to worry about passersby wandering through your photos, or about being too slow and disturbing others. Long skirts and other items are even suitable, making for beautiful and effortless photos. You can't imagine how much this place has witnessed the transformation of the universe over tens of thousands of years. It's even harder to imagine that this majestic and tranquil mountaintop erupted violently before humans even appeared.
