Bange means "auspicious protector" in Tibetan. It is located between the two major lakes of Nam Co and Selin Co on the northern Tibetan Plateau, with an average altitude of 4,700 meters. It belongs to the lake basin area of the southern Qiangtang Plateau. The mountains are gentle, the grasslands are open, and the terrain is high in the north and low in the south.
Namtso Lake, Tibet's largest lake, is the junction of Bange and Dangxiong counties. It has always been considered a sacred lake by herders, and countless tourists come to circumambulate it every year, especially during the Tibetan calendar, when even more come to circumambulate this "holy lake" in hopes of receiving the gods' blessing.
Bange County belongs to the plateau subarctic semi-arid monsoon climate zone, with a cold climate, thin air, unclear four seasons, long winters and no summers, and frequent windy and snowy days.
Namtso
Namtso Lake is the world's highest saltwater lake, my country's second-largest, and the first of Tibet's three sacred lakes. Many visitors to Namtso Lake travel to Dangxiong County, Lhasa. In fact, three-fifths of Namtso Lake lies within Bange County. The beautiful and unique northern scenic area of Namtso Lake, including the beautiful and unique Qiadolangka Island and its sacred gate, is also located within Bange County.
Holy Image Heaven Gate
Located in Village 5, Qinglong Township, Bange County, Nagqu Prefecture, Tibet, on Chaduolangka Island, north of the sacred lake Namtso. From a distance, the shorelines of Namtso form two perfect arcs, with a massive rock protruding in the middle. Up close, it resembles an elephant. According to Tibetan legend, walking through the Holy Elephant Gate three times will eliminate the sins of three lifetimes and bring you endless wealth.
