The Tongcheng Confucian Temple, located in the heart of Tongcheng City, faces the bustling Heping Road. Formerly known as the " Holy Temple " and " Palace of Learning , " it is a ceremonial architectural complex dedicated to the worship of Confucius. The temple is also home to the Tongcheng Museum, which houses a collection of 1,245 precious artifacts dating back to the Neolithic period .
The Confucian Temple is centered on the Dacheng Hall and is symmetrically arranged along the north-south central axis. It has the screen wall, gatehouse, Panchi ( bridge ) , Dacheng Gate, Wenchang Shrine, Chongsheng Shrine, east and west long wings, Dacheng Hall, Minglun Hall and palace walls. It is divided into two courtyards, front and back, with the Dacheng Gate as the boundary, and has become the scale of the Confucian Temple today.
Despite repeated ruins and reconstructions, the Confucian Temple has been restored to its original state. The newly renovated temple retains its grandeur, ancient elegance, and vast scale, seamlessly integrating the elements like a frozen piece of beautiful music. The gilded inscription " Confucian Temple " on the gatehouse was inscribed by Mr. Zhao Puchu.
