Taiji Cave, located in Shilong Mountain in Xinhang Township, northeast of Guangde County, Anhui Province, at the junction of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Anhui provinces, is the oldest tourist cave in the province. Known as the " First Cave in Southeast China , " Feng Menglong of the Ming Dynasty described the cave as one of the four wonders of the world: Guangde Burial (Taiji Cave ) , Qiantang River Tide, Leizhou Drum-Changing, and Mirage .
If you're looking for caves in southern Anhui, Taiji Cave is the place to go. Its diverse stalactites have earned it the nickname "Huangshan Cave." You can also witness the Huangshan sunrise, a dazzling display of lights. A wobbly boat ride on the underground river, ducking to avoid the rocks, is also a delight.
The Taiji Cave is a massive cave with a total area of 150,000 square meters and a depth of dozens of miles. The caves are interconnected, with small caves nested within the larger ones. The caves are sometimes narrow, sometimes wide, sometimes high, sometimes low, sometimes warm, sometimes cold, sometimes on land, sometimes on water, creating a sense of unpredictability. The upper cave is entered through the entrance at the top of the mountain and exits through the entrance at the foot of the mountain.
The Lower Cave is large and offers numerous scenic views. Above the entrance, inscribed with the characters " Taiji Cave " (太极洞) , written by Wu Tongchun, then Vice Minister of the Ministry of Justice during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, can still be seen today. The entrance hall is approximately 1,600 square meters, 5 to 10 meters high, and can accommodate 1,000 people.
The cave boasts magnificent scenery and rich historical relics, with stalactites and unusual rocks in a myriad of shapes and forms: some resemble lotuses, bamboo shoots, pillars, flowers, and curtains; some resemble animals and humans; some resemble bells, drums, chess pieces, and tables; some resemble soaring phoenixes and diving scales – breathtaking and a testament to the workmanship of nature. On the cliff face at the front, Wu Tongchun inscribed the four characters " Er Yi You Fen , " thus dividing the cave into two, east and west.

The entrance fee is approximately 60 RMB per person. Tickets can be bought at the entrance on the day of your visit, or in advance through local tourism websites.

Inside the cave, the best spots for photos are around the central chambers where the most impressive formations are found. Outside the cave, there are several scenic viewpoints where you can capture the cave’s entrance and the surrounding nature.
Begin by entering the cave’s main entrance, take your time exploring the various chambers and rock formations, and then head outside to the surrounding trails for a view of the cave from above. The whole journey takes about 2–3 hours.
Night visits are not available, and there are no light shows or special evening tours. The cave is best explored during daylight hours.
Taiji Cave tends to be less crowded on weekdays, especially in the early morning hours. It’s more crowded on weekends and public holidays, so visiting during off-peak times is recommended for a more relaxed experience.
Basic facilities, including public toilets and water stations, are available near the entrance and throughout the park area. There are a few small shops selling snacks and souvenirs, but no major restaurants inside the site.
The cave has some uneven terrain and stairs, so it may not be fully accessible for elderly visitors or those with mobility issues. However, the surrounding park and viewpoints are generally accessible to families with children.

Nearby attractions include the Jingting Mountain, known for its scenic trails and historical sites. The Anqing Yangtze River Bridge and the Xuancheng Museum are also worth visiting and can be included in a day trip.
There are small souvenir shops near the cave selling items such as local handicrafts, tea, and souvenirs related to the cave's natural beauty and history.
After visiting Taiji Cave, taxis are the most convenient option to continue your trip to nearby attractions. Public buses are available, but they may require transfers depending on your next destination.
