Sand Island, located in the northeastern part of Qinghai Lake, is the largest island in the lake and a national key scenic spot. Formed by wind-blown sand, its sand dunes resemble crescent-shaped structures floating on the surface, creating a remarkable spectacle within the lake. Sand Island boasts two freshwater lakes and reed wetlands, creating a stark contrast to the vast expanse of Qinghai Lake at the end of the desert.

The Qilian Mountains are located in the transition zone between the temperate continental climate and the plateau mountain climate, and there are many mountains interlaced and uneven, thus forming diverse climatic characteristics, making the four seasons in the Qilian Mountains never very distinct. The so-called "Qilian June Snow" is a portrayal of the climate and natural landscape of the Qilian Mountains.

The desert landscape is the main attraction and is not greatly affected by seasonality. Theoretically, you can visit it all year round. However, the temperature is low in winter, so it is recommended to visit it in spring, summer, and autumn.
