The Banta Martyrs Cemetery consists of the site of the Banta Defense War, the Wandong Revolutionary Memorial Hall, the New Fourth Army Second Division Memorial Hall and the Martyrs Cemetery.
The site of the Battle of Banta is located on the slopes of Guangshan Mountain, northwest of Banta Town, Lai'an County. The Banta area, with its rugged terrain and surrounding mountains, served as the New Fourth Army's center of operations east of the Jinpu Road during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. In March 1940, the Battle of Banta began here. To commemorate this battle and the martyrs who heroically sacrificed their lives during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the Banta Martyrs Cemetery was established in 1960.
In the center of the cemetery stands a 10-meter-tall, square-sided Martyrs' Memorial Tower. Atop the tower stands a majestic statue of a New Fourth Army soldier, wearing a conical hat and a broadsword, with a rifle drawn and gazing into the distance. The front of the tower is inscribed with the eight characters "The Revolutionary Martyrs Will Live Forever." Directly in front of the tower is the inscription "Memorial to the Half-Tower Martyrs' Monument."
The memorial hall displays 142 historical photos, 2 martyrs' steles, as well as weapons, equipment, documents and currency used by the New Fourth Army.
With a subtropical monsoon climate, Banta Martyrs Cemetery is a national AA-level tourist attraction, a national key martyrs cemetery and a provincial patriotic education base, making it suitable for travel in all seasons.
