Introducing Haitiantang

Haitiantang, located at No. 38 Fujian Road, Gulangyu Island, was originally built in 1921 and designated a key historical building by the Xiamen Municipal Government in April 2002. Now open to the public after restoration, the villa is a prime example of the fusion of Chinese and Western cultures. Haitiantang, Gulangyu Island's most stylish and exquisite old villa cultural tourism attraction, is a veritable new world for Xiamen.

The gatehouse is a classic example of traditional Chinese architecture, featuring double-eaved brackets and raised eaves. The buildings on both sides feature ancient Greek columns, and the window decorations are mostly Western-style, though the walls and corners feature Chinese carvings. The columns are square and constructed of red brick, creating a natural and harmonious palette. The main hall features four vertical columns with flower baskets that correspond to the flower pots on the railings. The brackets adorning the outer edges of the corridor add a sense of solemnity. Haitiantang's architectural style is unusual on Gulangyu Island, where Western-style architecture abounds.

No. 42 has been developed into a performance center for Nanyin (Chinese Intangible Cultural Heritage) and puppetry. The first floor houses a puppetry center, where the puppet family performs spectacular performances. No. 38, the main building with the most distinctive architecture, has been transformed into the Gulangyu Architecture Art Museum, showcasing the old villas and the little-known stories of the celebrities behind them, creating a nostalgic atmosphere.
