Visitors can explore its modern shopping mall, relax at cafes, or enjoy cultural and recreational activities in the surrounding area. Aoyuan is a park within Xiamen Tan Kah Kee Park, located on the southeastern coast of Jimei University Village in Xiamen, Fujian Province. It consists of three sections: the Gateway, the Jimei Liberation Monument, and the Mausoleum of Tan Kah Kee. Originally a small island, Aoyuan's shape resembled a sea turtle, hence the name "Aoyuan."
Tan Kah Kee personally designed and supervised the construction of the garden, which took him 10 years and cost 650,000 yuan. The garden's architecture and sculptures embody his philosophy of combining education with play, encompassing a wide range of topics, including ancient and modern Chinese and foreign literature, astronomy and geography, science and technology, culture and education, calligraphy and painting, flora and fauna, and industry and agriculture. The garden is a truly comprehensive and profound museum.
Upon entering the garden, you'll be greeted by a 50-meter-long porch. The walls on either side are engraved with 40 bluestone reliefs of historical figures from ancient and modern times. These three-dimensional, linked sculptures, many of them vividly portray various poses. They depict expressions of joy, anger, sorrow, and happiness. The unfurled red flags are as thin as paper, and the raised weapons are as delicate as brushes and chopsticks. The workmanship is truly extraordinary and a miracle of nature.
