Introducing Yanwu Bridge

The Yanwu Bridge is located in Xiamen's Siming District, on the Xiada Baicheng section of Huandao Road near the Navy Wharf. Its structure features fish-belly beams, oval piers, and a completely white bridge. To minimize impact on the coastal landscape, the bridge is illuminated by lamps attached to the bridge guardrails, rather than poles. Because the bridge deck elevation at the lower section is only 5 meters, the Yanwu Bridge is considered the closest bridge to sea level in the world.

The Yanwu Bridge boasts a unique, simple, and elegant design. Its upper structure features a streamlined, fisherman-style box girder and its lower structure is comprised of columnar, elliptical piers. The bridge, nestled against the sea, resembles the ebb and flow of waves, overlooking the renowned Gulangyu Island across the sea. This seamless integration of landscape and transportation is a key component of the Xiamen International Marathon. Gazing out over the sea from this bridge, one can see the moon rising above the water, the water merging with the sky, the water flowing with the sky. The bridge is no longer a cold, impersonal structure, but a platform for gazing at the sea.
