Jimei University, located in Xiamen, Fujian Province, is a key university in Fujian Province. The university's history began with the founding of the Teacher's Department of Jimei School in 1918 by the renowned patriotic overseas Chinese leader Tan Kah Kee. The Fisheries and Business Departments of Jimei School were established in 1920. In 1994, Jimei Normal College, Jimei Maritime College, Jimei Finance and Economics College, Xiamen Fisheries College, and Fujian Institute of Physical Education merged to form Jimei University.

As of March 2018, the school covers an area of ​​more than 2,300 acres and has a school building area of ​​nearly 1 million square meters. The new campus was selected as one of the "100 Classic and Excellent Projects" for the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, and it is the only university in the country to be selected for this project. It has 21 colleges and 69 undergraduate majors; there are more than 1,500 full-time teachers and more than 800 teachers with senior professional titles; there are more than 27,000 students, including more than 25,600 full-time undergraduates, more than 1,400 graduate students of various types, and nearly 600 international students of various types.

The university covers over 2,300 mu (approximately 166 acres) and boasts nearly 1 million square meters of campus space. Its distinctive architecture includes eight Tan Kah Kee buildings designated as nationally protected cultural relics.
