The Xiamen Bridge, China's first trans-strait highway bridge, consists of the Gaoqi approach road, the main cross-sea bridge, and the Jimei Interchange. It is a bridge of historic significance in Xiamen, following the Gaoji Seawall, and remains a key gateway westward from Xiamen Island. Jiang Zemin, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee and President of the People's Republic of China, personally inscribed the four characters "Xiamen Bridge" and personally cut the ribbon to officially open the bridge on December 19, 1991.
The bridge consists of three sections: the main bridge, the Jimei overpass, and the Gaoqi approach bridge. With a total length of 6,599 meters, it is China's longest cross-sea highway bridge. The main bridge is a double-track bridge, 2,070 meters long and 23.5 meters wide. The completion of the bridge has improved Xiamen's land transportation conditions.
