In Zengcuoan, a new tourist attraction in Xiamen, there is a street called Church Street, which is named after a church - Zengcuoan Church.
Zengcuo'an is the oldest church in Xiamen. As early as the reign of Zheng Chenggong, Roman Catholic missionary Li Ji built a church here, but it later fell into disrepair due to its age. In the 1920s, the Pinghe evangelist Cai Zhenxun settled in Zengcuo'an and preached the gospel there. By 1926, Zengcuo'an had about 60 believers. Cai then established a church here, which became Zengcuo'an Church. After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, Japanese invaders looted and burned Zengcuo'an, forcing many believers to flee to Gulangyu Island and the mainland for refuge, forcing the church to cease operations. Following the victory of the war, the church resumed services. However, a few years later, as war clouds gathered across the Taiwan Strait, Zengcuo'an Church, located on the front lines of coastal defense, was forced to cancel its services again and was requisitioned for trusteeship.
After the reform and opening up, with the implementation of religious policies and the easing of cross-strait tensions, the government returned the Zengcuoan church property to the Xiamen Christian Council in 1994. As the number of believers in Zengcuoan grew, the church applied to the government in 2007 for permission to renovate the old building, which was approved. On June 1, 2008, the renovation and other preparatory work were completed, and the building officially opened. The 700-square-meter main hall can accommodate 320 people, with Pastor Chen Miaozhen as the meeting point's director. In November 2011, the Zengcuoan meeting point, after review by relevant authorities, was officially upgraded to a church. Chen Miaozhen was ordained as a pastor in 2012, becoming the first pastor of Zengcuoan Church.
