Introducing Jiannan Auditorium

Jiannan Auditorium, also known as Jiannan Great Hall, is the largest auditorium in Xiamen University, accommodating 4,000 people. Its architectural style combines classical and modern elements, and it is magnificent. It is one of the famous buildings in Xiamen.

Construction of the Jiannan Grand Auditorium began in 1952 and was completed in 1954. Tan Kah Kee personally participated in the design and oversight of its construction, with donations from overseas Chinese in Nan'an, Fujian, led by his son-in-law, Lee Kong Chian. The Jiannan Grand Auditorium is exquisitely crafted, featuring large lanterns and embellished with patterns of hanging beads and colorful curtains, creating a unique architectural landscape that blends the past and the present, East and West, and draws inspiration from all corners of the world. The Jiannan Building Complex adheres to the traditional "one main and four subordinate" layout of Tan Kah Kee's architecture. The five buildings are arranged in an arc, facing the sea and embracing the beautiful Shangxian Square. It is one of Xiamen's landmarks.
