Explore the house where the famous Chinese writer Lin Yutang lived. The residence offers insights into his life and works. Enjoy the beautiful garden and peaceful surroundings, which were an inspiration for his writing. Visitors can also learn about his contributions to Chinese literature and culture through various exhibits inside the house.

Lin Yutang's former residence, located at No. 44 Zhangzhou Road, Gulangyu Island, is a U-shaped villa and one of the oldest on the island, built around the 1850s, making it over 150 years old. The building is of great age. It is an English-style building with arched corridors. The front part consists of two bedrooms and a living room, with a two-story sloping roof. In the center of the back is a small flower garden, flanked by two-story buildings connecting to the main house. There is also a fish pond in the back garden.
The villa's moldings are slender and elegant, while the second-floor railings are minimalist. The subterranean damp-proof layer is high, ensuring the rooms above remain dry and comfortable. A long stone staircase leads to the arched entrance of the first-floor central hall, surrounded by ancient banyan trees, longan trees, and magnolias, casting a dense, lush shade over the small garden, creating a refreshing, cool, and warm atmosphere.
Due to its age, the building is a three-story building with a basement, built to accommodate the uneven terrain. The front facade has become dilapidated, with the arches reinforced with brick walls. The main entrance is sealed off, and the second-floor lobby is uninhabitable. While one family still lives on the ground floor, the owner's family lives on the second floor, entering and exiting through a side door.
