The Jimei Liberation Monument is located in the center of Aoyuan. It is majestic and towering. The front of the monument is engraved with seven large gold-plated characters "Jimei Liberation Monument" written by Mao Zedong.
The back of the Jimei Liberation Monument is inscribed with 284 characters by Tan Kah Kee himself. The monument has four levels, with eight steps on the third level and three steps on the fourth level, symbolizing the eight-year War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the three-year War of Liberation.
The monument's base consists of two floors, surrounded by a bluestone fence. The fences are carved with lifelike images of lions, elephants, cows, sheep, parrots, and other animals. Each railing of the fence is engraved with 50 inscriptions and couplets by party and government leaders and celebrities from all walks of life at the time. The walls of the base are covered with bluestone reliefs with animal themes.
The brows above each relief are engraved with slogans from the 1950s and 1960s, such as "Practice Thrift", "Create Wealth", "Carry Forward the Spirit of Internationalism", "Salute the Chinese People's Liberation Army", and "Actively Complete Tax Payment Tasks", vividly reproducing the people's enthusiasm and spirit for building socialism at that time.
The subtropical maritime monsoon climate is characterized by the carvings of various rare birds, animals, and exotic flowers and plants on the stone balustrades of the monument base. A relief of the First National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and a group photo of Party and state leaders is featured on the front of the monument base. It is a good place to visit in all seasons.

It serves both as a memorial and a historical landmark.
The Jimei Liberation Memorial Tower is located in Jimei District of Xiamen. It can be reached by taxi or bus. The closest metro station is Jimei Metro Station, from which it is about a 15-minute walk to the tower. Taxi services are also readily available and provide a more direct route.
The tower is open to the public from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily. The best time to visit is in the early morning or late afternoon when the weather is cooler and the crowds are fewer.
Entrance to the Jimei Liberation Memorial Tower is free of charge. Visitors may be asked for voluntary donations, but there is no official ticket required for entry. Donations can be made on-site.
No booking is required for general visits to the tower. However, if you are attending a special event or tour, it is advisable to check in advance for availability and any required bookings.
Exploring the Jimei Liberation Memorial Tower and its surroundings takes about 1 to 2 hours. This allows enough time to visit the tower, enjoy the views, and walk through the nearby park.
The main highlight is the memorial tower itself, where visitors can explore the exhibits about the region's history. The observation deck at the top offers fantastic panoramic views of Xiamen and the surrounding area.
Guided tours are available on-site, and audio guides are also offered. They are typically available in Mandarin, but English-speaking guides may be requested in advance.
The best photography spots are from the observation deck of the tower, where you can capture stunning views of the city, the coastline, and nearby landmarks. The tower itself is also an impressive subject for photos, with its historical architecture and symbolic presence.
