Concord Chapel is the oldest church on Gulangyu Island. In the mid-19th century, many devout Christians arrived on the island. Seeking a place to worship, they decided to build a church there. Members of various missions donated funds to build the church on Lujiaoding, Gulangyu Island. Construction of this neoclassical church, then known as the "International Chapel," was completed in 1863. In 1911, the church underwent renovations and was renamed the "Concord Chapel." After 1949, Concord Chapel was managed by the Chinese Church. At the end of March 1951, Concord Chapel was taken over by the council of elders from Trinity Church and Gospel Church.
After 1952, Xiehe Church was handed over to Xiamen Second Hospital. In 1974, due to the hospital's expansion, the church was nearly demolished to build a pharmacy. However, thanks to the tireless efforts of Mr. Bai Jiaxin, a nationally recognized architect, several buildings were constructed around the church, seemingly destroying it while actually preserving it. Although the church was obscured by the buildings, it was nevertheless preserved. Xiehe Chapel has now been completely renovated and is now presented to visitors in its original state.
