In order to develop tourism at the source of the Yellow River, the People's Government of Maduo County built a "Bull Head Monument of the Source of the Yellow River, the Soul of China" in September 1988. The monument weighs 5.1 tons and is made of pure copper. The late 10th Panchen Lama and Comrade Hu Yaobang wrote the words "Source of the Yellow River" in Tibetan and Chinese respectively on the monument.
Maduo County has an alpine grassland climate. There are no four seasons in a year, only cold and warm seasons, which are usually called winter and summer respectively.
