Xiaohuanglou is actually the former residence of Huang Pu. The residence is located at No. 36 on the north side of the middle section of Huangxiang . It was announced as a national key cultural relic protection unit in 2006. It is now used as the China Taiwan-related Couplet Museum, which houses more than 100 couplets and plaques by Liu Yong, a Jinshi in the 16th year of Qianlong's reign, Xu Shichang, the President of the Republic of China, Feng Guozhang, the leader of the Beiyang warlords, and others.
Liang Zhangju, Lin Zexu's senior brother and the governor of Jiangsu Province, carried out a comprehensive renovation of Huang Pu's former residence during the Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty. He built the small yellow building in the West Flower Hall and the " East Garden " , a small garden building on the east side of the former residence .
The flower hall is a two-story pavilion, 9 meters wide and 24 meters deep, with a width of three rooms and a depth of five pillars. It has a through-beam wooden structure and a double-sloped roof. It has white walls, black tiles, and flying eaves. The beams are painted with dragons and phoenixes, and the doors, windows and pillars are all made of nanmu, with exquisite workmanship and delicate carvings.
The courtyard, lined with rows of bamboo and lush flowers, offers a tranquil and elegant atmosphere, reflecting the unique characteristics of Jiangnan gardens. The entire garden is surrounded by walls, forming its own courtyard, and houses a precious ancient mango tree.
