Gushan, located in the eastern part of Jin'an District, Fuzhou City, Fujian Province, on the north bank of the Minjiang River, is one of Fuzhou's most famous scenic spots. A giant, flat rock shaped like a drum sits on its summit, said to rumble whenever wind and rain arrive, hence the name Gushan. It is a popular Buddhist destination in Fuzhou. Yongquan Temple, nestled midway up the mountain, is Gushan's most significant attraction. Its thousand-year-old iron tree, chicken-wire wood altar, and blood-curdled sutras are collectively known as the mountain's "Three Treasures."
Gushan Scenic Area, centered around the ancient Yongquan Temple, boasts over 20 scenic spots in the east, including Huilong Pavilion and Lingyuan Cave; dozens of caves and gullies in the west, with the Eighteen Scenic Spots being particularly notable; over 50 scenic spots in the south, including Luohan Terrace and Xianglu Peak; and 45 scenic spots in the north, including Dading Peak and Baiyun Cave. These scenic spots, formed primarily from granite through long-term erosion, weathering, collapse, and accumulation, create a variety of natural landscapes, including the Pantao Forest, Liuhai Diaochan, Yusun Peak, Eight Immortals Rock, and Drinking Water Rock.
March to April is the spring rain season in Fuzhou, with large temperature swings; May to June is the plum rain season, with frequent rainfall; July to September is the typhoon season, with occasional typhoons, making it unsuitable for travel.
The best seasons are autumn and winter, from October to February of the following year, when the sun is shining brightly, the trees are evergreen, and the scenery is like that of a southern country.
