Zhixi Ancient Village, located in southern Liancheng County, boasts a history of over 500 years and is listed as a second-tier historical and cultural village in Fujian Province. It is primarily inhabited by Hakka people with the surnames Huang, Yang, Qiu, and Hua, with Huang and Yang being the most prominent. Since the Ming and Qing dynasties, the ancestors of Zhixi have built 74 ancient ancestral halls and 139 ancient dwellings. These grand Ming and Qing architecture are known as " Hakka Grand Mansions . "

Some of these ancient buildings are specifically used to gather clansmen to remember their ancestors, while the rest are complex buildings combining ancestral halls and residences. They are generally built using the " nine halls and eighteen wells " structural layout of the Hakka area. The gatehouses, window carvings, ceilings, and murals are all masterpieces of ancient folk architecture experts.

Zhixi's folk culture is also unique. During the first month of the lunar calendar, there are lantern parades, red dragons wrapped around pillars, spring oxen plowing, ten-part music, ancient stories, and Han opera performances. The Zhixi lanterns are particularly noteworthy.
