Sansha Town, part of Xiapu County, Ningde City, Fujian Province, is located on the northeastern coastal bulge of Fujian Province, in the central part of Xiapu County. It is 126 nautical miles from Keelung Port in Taiwan and only 16 nautical miles from Matsu Island. It covers a land area of ​​63.6 square kilometers and has a total population of 45,000 (2008). Historical records show that from the Tang Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty, military garrisons were stationed here. Historically, it has been hailed as the "Gateway to Fu'ning and the Key to Fujian and Zhejiang," and has long been known as a strategic point between Fujian and Zhejiang and a key coastal town.

Sansha Town, home to the renowned Mindong Fishery, is a Class-A fishing port and one of Fujian Province's first four Class-B ports for trade with Taiwan.
