Dongshan Temple, located on the western slope of Zifang Mountain east of Xuzhou City, Jiangsu Province, was first built in the early years of the Daoguang reign of the Qing Dynasty. Its founder was Master Dingjian, abbot of Jieying Temple in Xuzhou. To avoid flooding, Master Dingjian, abbot of Jieying Temple on the banks of the Yellow River in Pengcheng, relocated the temple to Zifang Mountain and named it Dongshan Temple.
Xuzhou has a temperate monsoon climate with distinct four seasons, no scorching heat in summer and no severe cold in winter, and an annual temperature of 14℃.
