Xiaoming Building, located on the campus of Peixian Junior High School in Jiangsu Province, was built in the 1920s by French missionaries. It is one of the few remaining Western-style buildings in Xuzhou. Its fusion of Chinese and Western styles reflects the introduction of Western culture into China in the early 20th century.
Xiaoming Building, formerly a Catholic church, was built in 1707 for French missionaries. The clergy residence was completed in 1919. After the church was completed, French missionaries built a church school southwest of it, naming it " Xiaoming Church School . " This is why later generations collectively refer to these buildings as " Xiaoming Building . "
The building boasts a complete structure, full functionality, a simple and elegant design, and is in excellent condition. The site originally housed a church, classrooms, and a clergy building. The church was demolished in 1972 , but the clergy building, seven classrooms, and four offices remain. The current Xiaoming Building, meticulously restored and repurposed, now serves as a school history museum.
