Taiping Valley is located in Taiping National Forest Park in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province. It is a valley at the northern foot of the Qinling Mountains, located in Hu County, more than 40 kilometers from Xi'an. It is famous for its abundant production of redbud flowers.
During the Republic of China era, Wang Sanchun, a renowned bandit in southern Shaanxi, fled to this area during the encirclement and suppression of the Kuomintang army and was eventually captured. Born into a poor family in Sichuan, Wang Sanchun, whose family was bullied by a local tyrant over land, burned down the tyrant's house in anger late one night and fled to southern Shaanxi, becoming a bandit. Over a decade, he became a prominent bandit entrenched in southern Shaanxi. At its peak, he commanded 5,000 men, using Zhenba as his base. He established a tax bureau, a mint, and bestowed titles and honors upon his bandits, creating a kind of independent kingdom. The Kuomintang army launched numerous attacks, but their failure to annihilate him became a source of worry for the Nationalist government, ultimately forcing it to resolve to eradicate this banditry. Local elders recount the details of Wang Sanchun's capture. According to legend, in the winter of 1937, the Kuomintang army attacked Wang Sanchun's bandit group and defeated them. Desperate, Wang Sanchun finally fled to Taiping Valley. Because Taiping Valley was a dead end, with only one way in but no way out, the Nationalist army blocked the mountain pass and set up a trap. Heavy snow blocked the mountains, and the weather was freezing cold. Famished and starving, Wang Sanchun sent his concubine, disguised as a village woman, to venture out in search of food. The soldiers guarding the pass stopped Wang Sanchun's concubine and, after questioning her, found nothing suspicious. Just as they were about to release her, they saw her smile, revealing several gold teeth. Puzzled, wondering how an ordinary village woman could have gold teeth, the soldiers stopped her and questioned her again, finally revealing her true identity. With her guidance, the Nationalist army successfully captured Wang Sanchun, who had been hiding in the mountains. The banditry of Wang Sanchun, which had plagued southern Shaanxi for over thirty years, was finally eradicated. Wang Sanchun was executed in Xi'an on Chiang Kai-shek's orders.
According to historical records, Taiping Valley was once a summer resort for the emperors of the Sui Dynasty, and it housed the Taiping Palace. However, nearly a thousand years later, the Taiping Palace has disappeared, leaving only the name Taiping Valley.
