Xuzhou Zoo, located south of Pengzu Garden in Xuzhou City, was once the second largest zoo in Jiangsu Province. The zoo covers 110 mu (approximately 16 acres) and features over 30 distinct animal enclosures, housing 81 species. During holidays, the zoo hosts large-scale animal performances, featuring humorous and engaging performances that create a vibrant atmosphere for visitors to interact with the animals.
Xuzhou Zoo houses and exhibits nationally protected animals such as Siberian tigers, leopards, brown bears, black bears, elk, red pandas, macaques, slow lorises, sika deer, red deer, yaks, red-crowned cranes, white-naped cranes, hooded cranes, white cranes, grey cranes, golden pheasants, red-bellied tragopans, silver pheasants, and pythons. It also houses and exhibits foreign animals, including African lions, zebras, ostriches, and emus, totaling over 800 individuals from 80 species. The zoo has also loaned out rare animals such as giant pandas, Asian elephants, kangaroos, chimpanzees, rhinos, polar bears, giraffes, hippos, and penguins.
Xuzhou Zoo has a warm temperate humid climate. Its terrain is wide from east to west and narrow from northwest to northwest. In the central and western parts is an artificial lake with an area of more than 10 acres - Swan Lake, which is suitable for travel in all seasons.
Folding Monkey Mountain
Located in the central part of the zoo, north of the leopard cages, this typical monkey mountain-style building houses macaques. Visitors can view the macaques from three different perspectives, from the upper to the lower levels. The lowest level offers the closest observation of the monkeys. Previously isolated in large iron cages, this has recently been replaced with glass walls. The rockery is equipped with pavilions and caves, and the monkeys' night shelter is located at the bottom of the mountain.
Bear Mountain
Located in the eastern part of the park, near the East Gate, it has two ponds. One originally housed brown bears, and the other served as a performance venue. Later, the performance venue moved, leaving the other pond vacant. The brown bears were temporarily relocated there when the polar bears were on loan. The ground is concrete, and there is a pool, but it's now empty.
