Introducing Pingqiao Stone Dam

The Pingqiao Stone Dam, located approximately 1.5 kilometers southeast of Pingqiao Village in Tianmuhu Town, Liyang , is China's largest non-reinforced concrete reservoir dam and Asia's largest mortar-masonry arch dam. Construction took five years , from 1974 to 1979 .

The 122- meter-wide and 24- meter-high dam is constructed from countless neatly-formed rectangular rocks, with two side arches to the east and west. Connected and supported by a central pier and two side piers, the dam's base is deeply rooted in the exposed brown rock at the foot of the mountain. The dam's unique shape reflects superb construction craftsmanship.

During the flood season, mountain water surges in and pours down from the overflow hole, forming a waterfall 40 meters wide and more than 20 meters high. Being in this scene will make you think: " The waterfall plunges three thousand feet, as if the Milky Way falls from the sky " , which makes people linger.
