Introducing Xiaoyao Town

Xiaoyao Town, located in the southwest of Xihua County, Zhoukou City, was founded during the Jian'an period of the Eastern Han Dynasty. Originally named " Xiaotao , " it was also known as " Heliu Town " because the Sha and Ying Rivers flowed past the town . During the Ming and Qing dynasties, it became a crucial commercial port connecting the upper and lower reaches of the Shahe River, and was known as one of the " Four Great Ports " of the Shahe River, along with Luohe, Zhoukou, and Jieshou . A ferry still remains on the Shahe River within the town, complete with old iron boats and bamboo poles, preserving its original charm.

Xiaoyao Town is famous for its Hu La Tang (Hot Spicy Soup). This dish originated during the Jiajing reign of the Ming Dynasty, initially serving as a royal soup exclusively for the royal family. After the fall of the Ming Dynasty, imperial chef Zhao Ji fled to Xiaoyao Town with the secret recipe, where it spread widely among the people and has become a renowned Chinese delicacy. Authentic Hu La Tang requires broth, gluten, side dishes, and over 30 Chinese medicinal herbs.
