Cizhong Catholic Church is located on the two cliffs of the Lancang River, 80 kilometers away from Shengping Town in the southern part of Deqin County, Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. There is a beautiful and quiet mountain village called Cizhong, which is nestled in the mountains and facing the water.
"Zi" means village, and "Zhong" means big, which is Tibetan. In the old days, the village head was in charge of six villages, hence the name. The villagers are mainly of three ethnic groups: Tibetan, Naxi and Han.
The Cizhong Church complex sits on a lush mountainside, nestled against a verdant hillside and dotted with farmhouses. The complex blends seamlessly into the natural landscape, creating a unique and distinctive scene. The entire complex, centered around the church, blends Eastern and Western influences with a well-balanced hierarchy. The complex comprises a gate, front yard, church, backyard, underground cellar, flower garden, vegetable garden, and vineyard, creating a compact yet impressive structure. An outer fortification surrounds the gate, and flower beds and fruit trees surround the buildings and the open spaces around the rooms, creating a vibrant and elegant atmosphere.
